    Position Summary
    The UGA College of Veterinary Medicine Food Animal Health and Management Program ( FAHMP ) seeks applicants for a bovine production medicine veterinarian position. This will be a clinical or tenure track position at the assistant or associate professor level. FAHMP is a unit of the Department of Population Health that focuses on improving the health and profitability of production livestock through continuous improvement in disease prevention and animal performance.
    The position entails a mix of service to regional cattle production units (cow-calf, stocker, and dairy) and teaching veterinary students in classrooms, laboratories, and clinical rotations, as well as graduate veterinarians in the Master of Food Animal Medicine ( MFAM ) program.
    Rank, salary, and terms of appointment will be dependent upon qualifications and experience of the applicant.

    Expertise and training in food animal veterinary medicine, and eligibility to obtain a veterinary license in the state of Georgia.

    Qualifications: Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent from an accredited college/school of veterinary medicine and board certification or eligibility for board certification in a field related to food animal veterinary medicine.
    Clinical (Non-Tenure Track) Associate Professor
    Qualifications: Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent from an accredited college/school of veterinary medicine, board certification or eligibility for board certification in a field related to food animal veterinary medicine, and 5+ years post-terminal degree experience in food animal veterinary medicine.
    Tenure Track Assistant Professor
    Qualifications: Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent from an accredited college/school of veterinary medicine, a Masters or PhD degree, and board certification or eligibility for board certification in a field related to food animal veterinary medicine.
    Tenure Track Associate Professor
    Qualifications: Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent from an accredited college/school of veterinary medicine, a Masters or PhD degree, board certification or eligibility for board certification in a field related to food animal veterinary medicine, and a minimum 5-years of experience in rank at the Assistant Professor level before the start date.
    Candidates without a terminal degree must document exceptional accomplishments in food animal veterinary medicine or related area and must be approved for a terminal degree exception before hire.

    Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
    Masters or PhD in a veterinary medical biosciences related field preferred, especially those with an emphasis on livestock health and management.
    Board certification in any of the following AVMA recognized specialties is desirable: ABVP (Food Animal, Beef, or Dairy); Internal Medicine (Large Animal); Nutrition; Preventive Medicine; Theriogenology; or Toxicology.

    Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
    The ideal candidate will have a population-based perspective and a strong interest in cattle production. Successful candidates will have knowledge and proven success working with North American beef and/or dairy production systems, interpersonal skills required to communicate effectively with producers, veterinarians, and students, and the ability to conduct independent or collaborative applied research. Demonstrated ability in one or more of the following areas is preferred: forage management; food safety; ruminant nutrition; production economics; theriogenology; large animal medicine and surgery; epidemiology and preventive health management. Teaching ability; leadership skills; strong communication skills; and data management.

    Duties/Responsibilities
    Duties/Responsibilities
    The successful candidate will teach veterinary students and postgraduate veterinarians and collaborate with faculty in production and clinical medicine. The duties of this position focus primarily on promoting the teaching and service missions of the Food Animal Health and Management Program by working with existing faculty members to provide didactic and on-farm clinical experiences for veterinary students, as well as developing and contributing to continuing education for referring veterinarians and outreach programs for producers in the livestock industry. Participating in collaborative or independent applied research with an emphasis on food animal health and production issues of concern to Georgia cattle producers is also an important part of the program's mission. Most of the candidate's efforts are expected to be in the area of beef production medicine, or a combination of beef and dairy production medicine, depending on the candidate's background. Opportunities also exist to work with small ruminants and swine. Clinical duties will encompass both herds and individual animals. The candidate will help provide after-hours food animal ambulatory emergency coverage in rotation with three other faculty members.
