    Description

    The Aquatics Director oversees all aspects of aquatic operations and programming, including business operations, facility upkeep, safety standards, budget oversight, Swim School programming, and customer service, and provides leadership to staff, members, and program participants.


    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Ensure that the JCCSF Swim School (group, lessons, private lessons, swim teams) is managed to the highest quality standards while maintaining strong enrollment and exceptional customer satisfaction.

    Ensure that the Aquatics facility maintains exceptionally high safety standards, with lifeguards proactively trained and evaluated.
    Manage and oversee business operations and systems including: administrative staff, registration, payroll, record maintenance and staff/participant communication.

    Assist in managing and oversight of the Aquatic operating budget, striving to meet and exceed revenue and performance goals.

    Set policy and operating standards for all aquatic functions including: safety, customer service, staff accountability, programming, member services, etc., and ensure these standards are consistently met.

    Partner with JCCSF Building Services and vendors to ensure mechanical and chemical systems are safe, proactively maintained and in good working order.

    Oversight in managing all member services including: Swim School, lap swim, pool use rules, schedules and operating standards. Ensure that the needs of our membership are being served.
    Manage and determine the Aquatic facility's needs, including appropriate pool scheduling and usage allocation between all areas.
    Hire, supervise, train, and evaluate the Aquatics leadership team, including Aquatics management staff and department administrative staff.
    Provide ongoing coaching and constructive feedback to Aquatics staff with the goal of potential career advancement.
    Partner with the JCCSF marketing department to coordinate and execute an ongoing program marketing strategy.

    Maintain ongoing communication with the Director of Aquatics, Sports & Recreation regarding program/facility/staff needs, initiatives, incentives, challenges, and successes.

    Carry out lifeguarding, swim instructing, and administrative duties as needed due to staff absences or coverage requirements.
    Additional duties as required.

    REQUIREMENTS
    Minimum of two years Senior Aquatic Program/Facility Management experience, including:

    Direct responsibility for pool operations including safety standards, staff supervision, facility maintenance, budgeting, business operations, financial management, and program development/management.

    Knowledge of and experience with managing various swim school models.
    In-depth knowledge of safety procedures.

    BA/BS degree desired relevant fields (such as Recreation, Sport Management, Business Management, etc), or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

    Experience developing and managing a large operating budget.

    Strong Aquatic background including:
    Must have all required certifications or obtain within six months of employment:
    Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO)
    Lifeguard and Lifeguard Instructor certification.
    Lifeguard Instructor Trainer Certification is a plus.
    Experience supervising an aquatic staff including management team, lifeguards, swim instructors and administrative staff.

    Strong leadership experience, including:
    Coaching and supervisory experience, focused on team building and growth.
    Demonstrated ability to develop and inspire a large and diverse staff team.
    High level of professionalism, including:
    Personal responsibility, accountability, and motivation.
    Strong written and oral communication skills.
    Professional presence and demeanor.
    Focus on customer service.

    Advanced technology proficiency, including experience in CRM/ registration systems and MS Office, and the ability to learn new business software programs.

    WORKING CONDITIONS Work to be primarily performed in an office environment located within the Aquatics center. Secondary duties to be performed on the pool deck of the Aquatics facility (indoor pool facility).
    PHYSICAL
    REQUIREMENTS
    Seated and/or standing work on a computer throughout the day; walking and visually observing the Aquatics pool deck. Carry out functions of lifeguard and in-water swim instructor on an as-needed basis.

    STATUS
    Benefited, exempt, supervisory position.

    HOURS
    Full-time position

    SCHEDULE
    Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5pm. Occasional nights, weekends and holidays required.
    On call during all operating hours for Aquatic emergencies and/or coverage needs. Based on needs of business/ department
