    Purpose of Announcement

    EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL TWO (2) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCIES ONE IN THE DEPARTMENT OF WATER AND ONE IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS.

    This employment list may also be used for FUTURE East & West Jefferson vacancies in various Departments.
    Kind of Work

    Under direction, the purpose of the position is to perform advanced and skilled inspection of construction and maintenance projects and conditions for adherence to established engineering standards and regulations. Employees perform inspection duties for an assigned area of the Parish. Areas of responsibility include, but are not necessarily limited to, capital sewerage, general engineering, community development and streets administration. Position reviews estimates of repairs and materials cost per maintenance/repair project, and inspects workmanship and materials and quantities use for compliance with established project specifications. May be required to drive to and from various locations throughout Jefferson Parish (East & West banks). This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or their designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.

    For the current vacancy in Water Department, the position is responsible for work involving the inspection of methods and materials used in Water Distribution System and Water Treatment Plants for the Water Department construction projects. Employee acts as onsite representative for Department on construction and maintenance projects; inspects workmanship and materials to assure conformity with plans, specs, contractual agreements, and state/parish standards.
    Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination

    Must meet one of the following qualifying options:
    A. Current employment with Jefferson Parish and permanent civil service status at or above the level of Engineering Inspector II, with at least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience performing inspections of public works infrastructures.
    OR
    B. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent; plus, a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible, paid work experience inspecting, or directly supervising, the work performed (and materials used) in the installation, rehabilitation, or repair of municipal infrastructures, including: streets, roadways, bridges, sidewalks, water treatment plant equipment, drainage canal and ditch systems, and/or subsurface utility lines.
    OR
    C. Possession of an accredited Bachelor's degree with at least thirty (30) credit hours in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field of study.

    D. Possession of an accredited Associate's degree; plus, a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible, paid work experience, as described in Option B above.

    (ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)

    The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience. The information is subject to verification and the Personnel Department reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience claimed for credit.

    JEFFERSON PARISH CIVIL SERVICE BENEFITS

    Vacation (Annual Leave)
    Employees accumulate one half day of paid vacation for every two weeks worked.
    Leave accrual rates increase with years of service. Any unused annual leave is
    usually paid upon separation from Parish Employment.

    Sick Leave
    Employees accumulate one half day of paid sick leave for every two weeks worked.
    Sick leave is available for personal illness, injury or medical consultations.

    Holidays
    Nine paid official holidays are observed, plus any holidays declared by Parish Officials.

    Life Insurance
    All regular employees receive a life insurance policy equal to one year's salary.
    Extra insurance may be purchased.

    Medical Insurance
    An HMO medical insurance plan is avalable for employees and their
    dependents. Jefferson Parish pays 80% of the premium for employees and 50% of
    the premiums for dependents.

    A Flexible Benefits Plan
    Employees have the opportunity to save money by paying for health
    insurance and optional insurance with pre-tax dollars. A Flexible Savings
    Account for Medical Expenses and Dependent Care is also available.

    Retirement
    Most regular employees belong to the Parochial Employees' Retirement
    System instead of the Social Security System. For employees hired after
    January 01, 2007, a pension calculated at 3% of salary per year of service
    is provided upon retirement at age 67 with 7 years of service, age 62 with
    10 years of service, or age 55 with 30 years of service.

    Tenure Payment
    Employees are paid $25 per year of service in December of each year.
    Employees must have worked two years before the first check is paid.

    Deferred Compensation Plan(457b plan)
    Similar to 401K programs, the 457b Deferred Plan allows employees to defer
    up to $14,000 of pretax income each year to supplement retirement savings.
    Pre-tax contributions can be cashed in upon retirement or termination without
    penalty. This plan is provided by Nationwide Retirement Solutions

    Special leaves of absence for military service, maternity leave, etc.
    may be granted in accordance with the Personnel Rules.
