    As a Registered Nurse (RN) inthe operating room (OR), you will provide care to patientsundergoing surgical or other invasive procedures. You will performscrub and circulating functions and prepare the OR, surgicalinstruments and equipment forsurgery.

    Responsibilities:

    • ASSESSMENTS:Completes ongoing assessments.
    • Recognizessignificant changes in patient's condition and respondsappropriately.
    • PLANNING: Develops measurablegoals for identified problems.
    • Updates goalsfor identified problems.
    • Involves thepatient/family (or designee) in developing a plan of careindividualized to patient cultural, religious and educationalneeds.
    • Coordinates the interdisciplinary planof care.
    • Serves as a patientadvocate.
    • IMPLEMENTATION: Provides nursing carebased on patient-centered outcomes and standards of care that arebased on current research and evidence-basedpractice.
    • Administers patient care andtreatments safely in accordance with the Standards of Safe NursingPractice and institutional policy.
    • Administersmedications safely in accordance with the Standards of Safe NursingPractice and institutional policy.
    • Documentslegibly using concise terms, correct terminology and approvedabbreviations.
    • EVALUATION: Participates inon-going interdisciplinary evaluation of patient/family outcomesand contributes to the improvement ofcare.
    • Participates in the quality improvementprocesses.
    • LEADERSHIP/PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:Delegates tasks/assignments to employees according to their abilityand within the scope of their job descriptions and according to theDelegation by Licensed Nurses, Ohio AdministrativeCode.
    • Serves as a resource person sharingknowledge/skills.
    • Acts as a rolemodel/mentor.
    • Recognizes and acknowledges peeraccomplishments.
    • Accepts/receives constructivecriticism.
    • Participates in the Peer andSelf-Review process.
    • Pursues on-going educationand/or certification in specialty.

    • Completesmandatory education and training in order to maintain organizationand department specific competencies and requirements. Maintainsapplicable certification/licensure. MaintainsBLS.
    • Follows hospital and department policiesand procedures with special attention to attendance andpunctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge,and safety.
    • Department Specific Duties: Plansfor patient care utilizing both patient specific information andpreference sheets and assists in collecting and preparingequipment, instruments, sutures, and implants (if applicable) in atimely manner.
    • Applies observation and specificknowledge to anticipate needs of the surgical team to produce asmooth case progression and completion.
    • Acts aspatient advocate, identifying patient and confirming that surgicalsite identification has been performed withoutdiscrepancy.
    • Assumes professionalresponsibilities including timely arrival for assignments, timelyresponse to on-call pages, and maintenance of roomschedule.
    • Ensures surgical specimens arehandled correctly by accurateidentification.
    • Other duties asassigned

    Education:

    • Graduateof an accredited school of nursing BSNpreferred.

    Certifications:

    • Licensedas a registered nurse in the state of Ohio.
    • BLSrequired

    Complexity ofWork:

    • Maintains competenciesspecific to patient populationserved.
    • Successfully completes mandatoryclinical competenciesannually.


    WorkExperience:

    PhysicalRequirements:

    • Requires fullrange of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manualand finger dexterity, and eye-handcoordination.
    • Requires standing and walking forextended periods of time.
    • Requires correctedvision and hearing to normal range.
    • Requiresworking under stressful conditions and irregularhours.
    • Exposure to communicable diseases and/orbody fluids.
    • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of forcefrequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of forceconstantly to move objects.
    • Physical Demandrequirements are in excess of those for LightWork.
