Join our team at Renton Technical College We are seeking a passionate Dental Assistant Instructor who will guide our students as they prepare for a career in dental care. The Full-Time Dental Assistant Instructor is responsible for teaching the complete dental curriculum, setting up and supervising the campus-based student clinical experiences, as well as overseeing contractual internships for one section of the dental assistant program. The instructor will work cooperatively with the contractual and volunteer dentists along with other personnel in the clinic with the Program Director in all program management areas. Other professional responsibilities include maintaining office hours at times convenient to the students, serving on departmental and college committees, serving as an ad hoc member of the program's advisory committee, participating in professional improvement activities, and other related duties as assigned by the Dean of Health and Human Services.

This is a full-time, tenure track position that is responsible for 40 hours per week of instruction and related professional duties in our Dental Assistant program. Teaching assignment may include in-person, online, or hybrid courses. This position is represented by the Renton Federations of Teachers (RFT) union. The salary for this position is $94,503 - $112,865 annually. New hires are initially placed at step one ($94,503) on the salary schedule. Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include

  • Provide leadership in working to improve access and successful educational outcomes for student populations.
  • Effectively teach the adopted core curriculum for the Dental Assistant program.
  • Provide for the orderly conduct of program learning activities, individual student learning needs, and the appropriate evaluation of student progress towards attaining the learning objectives.
  • Evaluate student progress towards attaining the learning objectives to include individual assignments, projects, quizzes, and tests.
  • Maintain and submit student records, documentation, and program reports.
  • Actively develop and maintain effective working relationships with the program's advisory committee. Enhance advisory committee representation by developing close ties with program partners and the business community.
  • Participate in recruiting and job placement activities for students with varied backgrounds and career goals.
  • Serve on department and college committees. Participate in professional improvement activities.
  • Develop and update curriculum as required by the College to respond to industry or program trends and to improve equitable student outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff.
  • Maintain office hours convenient to students.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Support the college's mission by creating a learning environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
  • An Associate of Applied Science (AAS), Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Applied Science Transfer (AAST) degree is preferred.
  • Certified Dental Assistant and Registered Dental Assistant credentials is required.
  • Five or more years of recent successful work experience as a dental assistant.
  • Teaching experience and up-to-date knowledge in all phases of dental assisting will be preferred.
  • Have or acquire within 90 days of initial employment a current healthcare provider CPR certification and First Aid Certificate.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Dentrix and other technology software.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 month of hire) the production of accessible content, whether print or electronic.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to work professionally and effectively with students, faculty, staff, colleagues and community partners.
  • Knowledge of, understanding of, and commitment to the education role and philosophy of the technical college.
  • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
  • Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working hours include instruction Monday – Friday, with evening and weekend work as required. The position is active in nature and requires standing, lecturing and demonstration of processes in a lab environment. Frequent use of a computer and exposure to terminal screens is required. Work and meetings may take place across campus. May drive/travel to trainings, conferences, and/or college events. This is mostly an in-person/on-campus position; remote work may occur as business permits.
