    Position Summary

    The Laboratory Support Technician processes patient requests for outpatients and outside account patients.

    As a Laboratory Support Technician, you will perform venipuncture (on individuals of all ages), skin puncture (on individuals of all ages), and arterial punctures (on individuals greater than 16 years of age) on outpatients, hospital inpatients and outside account patients.

    You will also prepare specimens from hospital inpatients, outpatients, and outside account patients for clinical and reference laboratory testing while maintaining required documentation to comply with accrediting agencies.

    Efficient performance of these duties requires a person with manual dexterity, accuracy of work, mental alertness, and physical endurance. This position requires a neat appearing, pleasant, tactful individual with a sincere interest in others.

    Must be able to cooperate with others in the team and follow ECU Health and Pathology personnel policies and be able to follow directions and work under pressure.

    Minimum Requirements


    • High School, Equivalent, or Higher

    Preferred:

    • Phlebotomy certification by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency
    • 6 months experience in a hospital or reference laboratory setting, physician office outpatient clinic or other medical setting
    Other Information


    • 40 hours a week
    • Monday - Friday (11 am - 7:30 pm or 7 pm - 3:30 pm)
    • Scheduled weekend rotation (every 3rd weekend)
    • Rotational Holidays
    • Shift and hours are to be adjusted according to staffing and/or workload demand
