    Cardiac Anesthesiologist

    PRIMARY PURPOSE
    To provide high quality, efficient, cost-effective, and state of the art anesthesia services
    for Catholic Medical Center. Evaluates each patient's needs and delegates the
    management of all aspects of patient care to the appropriate care provider to attain the
    delivery of efficient, cost-effective, quality care. Fosters a work environment for staff
    conducive to professional growth, accountability and autonomy. Creates and maintains a
    warm and friendly atmosphere for patients, Catholic Medical Center staff, referring and
    staff physicians, and visitors.
    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
    Under the general direction of the Chief Executive Officer and under the direct
    supervision of the Chief of Anesthesia, within established Catholic Medical Center and
    departmental policies and procedures and all applicable laws, through own actions or by
    delegating to appropriate co-workers, the Cardiac Anesthesiologist performs the
    functions set forth below. Notwithstanding anything contained in this job description, the
    Anesthesiologist shall not be required to be licensed in any state other than the State of
    New Hampshire.
    As a Cardiac Anesthesiologist at Catholic Medical Center, you will treat a diverse range of patients and
    work in a fast-paced medical environment. You will coordinate and provide patient care in multiple sites at
    our facility. You will work in the anesthesia care time model for some cases.

    Cardiac Anesthesiologist Primary Functions:

    • Prepares and administers general and regional anesthetics and pain medication, adjusting as
    needed before, during, and after surgery and other procedures.

    • Provides anesthesia maintenance and adjustment before, during, and after procedures.
    • Read/interpret perioperative Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) Exams
    • Orders diagnostic tests as needed.
    • Works closely with surgical specialists.
    • Performs venous and arterial punctures.
    • Provides post-anesthesia care and evaluation.
    • Provides and monitors mechanical ventilation.
    • Communicate with patients, and their families and caregivers.
    • Reacts appropriately to adverse reactions and complications.
    • Evaluates patient histories, lab results, and surgical plans to determine an appropriate anesthesia and pain management plan.
    • Monitors patient fluid, blood, and electrolyte balance, and other vital signs and critical functions
    during course of procedures.

    • Performs tracheal intubation, airway management, and extubation.
    • Monitors patients following procedures to determine when they can be safely moved from one
    stage of recovery to the next.

    • Takes detailed medical history to determine possible allergic or negative reactions to medication.
    • Supervises registered nurse anesthetists and other technical staff.
    • Mentors and supervises anesthesia providers

    Cardiac Anesthesiologist Qualifications/Skills:

    • Conversational Spanish or other second language a plus.

    Education, Experience & Licensing Requirements:

    • American Board of Anesthesiology certification or board eligible
    • Residency or fellowship in anesthesia sub-specialty.
    • M.D. or D.O.
    • License to practice medicine in New Hampshire
    • Skilled in the administration techniques of anesthesia, including epidurals and ultrasound-guided anesthesia
    • Certification in Basic Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE)
    • Certification in Advanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) preferred
    • ABA Certification Adult Cardiac Anesthesiology preferred
