The Charlton Fire Department provides all-hazards response including fire suppression, EMS, and hazardous materials incident mitigation to residents and visitors. We are committed to the community and have a robust Community Risk Reduction Division. We have members assigned to the Fire District 7 Dive Team, Technical Rescue Team, and Fire Investigation Unit, and our annual call volume is approximately 2,600.
The department's twenty-three members are assigned to four (4) working groups on a rotating 24-hour schedule with a 42-hour workweek. Compensation is afforded through the collective bargaining agreement between the Town of Charlton and IAFF Local 4023. Starting salary range will vary depending on qualifications. Firefighter/EMT is approximately $58, $62,091.12 Firefighter / Paramedic is $66, $69, This salary does not include any of the additional benefits offered. The Town of Charlton participates in the Worcester Regional Retirement System, does not have a residency requirement, and is an equal opportunity employer.
Candidates will participate in a general knowledge test, oral interview board, and be subject to a thorough background investigation, including a Massachusetts Criminal Offender Records Information (CORI) check. Successful candidates will be subject to passing the Physical Ability Test (PAT), pre-employment medical evaluation, and a character assessment.
