    Description:

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Demonstrates professional, appropriate, effective and tactful written, verbal, and nonverbal communication with patient, families, medical staff, colleagues, vendors, and other departments throughout the continuum of care to promote continuity of care and services and enhance clinic image.
    • Demonstrates positive professional customer service in all patient, staff, and visitor contacts.
    • Utilizes interpersonal skills to establish and maintain healthy interpersonal relationships with healthcare members, patients, and families.
    • Acknowledges patient's rights on confidentiality issues, maintains patient confidentiality at all times, and follows HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
    • Participates in staff development activities and orientation as requested.
    • Proactively acts as patient advocate, responding to and working to resolve patient concerns.
    • Responsible for following equipment maintenance protocol, identifying problems, and coordinating appropriate repairs.
    • Operation of various office machines (i.e. fax, copier, phone, and computer).
    • Participates effectively as a team member in the clinic
    • CPR Certified

    Management:

    • Monitors clinic specific compliance with MCI Policies implementing plans as needed
    • Promotes personal growth/development and understanding among staff members in specific areas.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of management /supervisory responsibilities as identified in the corporate compliance plan.
    • Promotes team concept among all staff in clinic. Ensures problems, possible solutions and final solutions are understood and accepted by assigned staff members.
    • Presents problems in a professional manner and helps coordinate solutions inter-departmentally. Creatively seeks solutions to existing problems as well as potential problems. Creatively implements solutions to problems.
    • Trains and monitors staff to ensure that protocols in specific areas comply with federal/state regulatory agencies as applicable.
    • Monitors and maintains licensure certification requirements for assigned staff are met.
    • Creatively seeks new ideas to stay within budget guidelines while constantly improving the quality of health care delivered.
    • Ensures charging/ reimbursement changes are integrated into every level of clinic operations by coordinating with the clinic team.
    • Assists with documentation audits

    Manager:

    • Works with medical Director in regard to budget and operational guidelines within the clinic.
    • Prepares, monitors, and adjusts budget and staff
    • Develops, implements and monitors clinic objectives, policies, procedures, standards, and educational programs in conjunction with the mission and the philosophy of Mercy Clinics, Inc. and Mercy Medical Center-Des Moines.
    • Works collaboratively with Clinic Administration and other managers to develop or evaluate MCI policies
    • Works with Clinic Medical Staff and Medical Director to develop, evaluate, and monitor clinic specific protocols, objectives, and procedures.
    • Works with Clinic Administration and other managers to develop and implement best practices to address identified potential barriers or new opportunities.
    • Develops and maintains quality assurance programs, i.e. nursing, accounting
    • Proactively analyzes clinic operations to identify barriers or new opportunities
    • Directs the maintenance of physical environment and equipment.
    • Serves as liaison between physicians and Clinic Administration, promoting understanding and agreement in regard to future goals.
    • Directs, motivates, and evaluates activities of clinic employees, ensuring that clinic goals and expectations are met.
    • Ensures the impact of constant change is positive in nature to employees, patients, and physicians
    • Responsible for personnel activities that include interviewing, hiring, evaluating, counseling and terminating. Responsible for directly evaluating and disciplining staff members.
    • Directs and/or manages employee human resource activities (i.e. Kronos, payroll, time and attendance, required education, employee changes, corporate compliance, LOA, FMLA, performance appraisals)
    • Directs clinic in complying with applicable laws and regulations relative to clinic operations (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, COLA, HIPAA, Stark, etc.).
    • Ensures that patient concerns are addressed and that appropriate and timely follow-up is performed.

    MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Work includes cross coverage in other clinic areas as team needs.
    • Maintains supply inventory and stocks supplies in various work areas.
    • Participates in Performance Improvement activities as appropriate.
    • Maintains orderly, neat appearance of work area.
    • Performs nursing chart audits.
    • Assists in a variety of clinic specific functions to facilitate effective and efficient flow of services throughout the clinic (i.e. reception, accounting, lab, and nursing).

    MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

    • Work requires a professional level of knowledge in a health care.
    • Three years administrative/management experience in clinic or physician office setting required.
    • CPR Certification (obtained within 6 months of start date).
