    Essential Job Functions:
    Prepares organizes and instructs nutrition education classes; order, receives and evaluates necessary materials for presentations and maintains an adequate supply of nutrition educational material; provides high rush individual counseling; performs nutritional assessment including the determination of normal growth patterns and diet adequacy; evaluates blood iron level and assesses present health status of clients; determines eligibility of clients and food supplements to be received; issues food vouchers; refers clients to proper health agency when necessary; screens incoming clients; may be assigned duties at satellite clinic as necessary for client flow and services; assists with Quality Assurance Program (e.g. ongoing evaluation of individual counseling, nutrition education classes, clinical procedures, etc.); provides staff training on nutrition related topics and nutrition assessment procedures; conducts facilitated nutrition education classes; approves special formula prescriptions, approves a component of the annual nutrition plan, and authorizes/develops in-house nutrition literature. Also, act as Breastfeeding Coordinator, maintain breast pump logs, ordering breast pumps, and other breastfeeding aids.

    Normal office environment. Must be available to work 24 hours per week, Monday-Friday and occasionally on Saturday. Must be available to work after hours and weekends when necessary. Work schedule subject to change to accommodate work load.

    Knowledge:
    A working knowledge of health and nutrition.

    Skills/Abilities:

    Ability to plan, organize, and present educational programs; ability to work cooperatively with individuals, facilities, groups, and fellow employees.


    Physical Requirements:

    Constantly sees and hears; frequently writes by hand, sorts, sits, stands, stoops, squats, kneels, twist body, walks, drives, carries, lifts objects weighing up to 50 lbs.; infrequently climbs, crawls, drags, pulls, pushes objects weighing up to 50 lbs., enters data and operates PC.


    Education/Experience:

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics, Home Management, Food Service, Dietetics, or other related field with a minimum 24 hours in food and nutrition.

    Must have a current license as a Registered Dietician in the State of Texas or be able to obtain a state license within the first 90 days of employment.

    Must possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid Driver's License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license. Must provide own vehicle with insurance meeting City standards for job-related transportation. Applicant selected for hire will be subject to a background investigation and drug/alcohol screen test.
