    Job Summary


    Under the direct supervision of the Chair of Family Medicine and the respective course director(s) the successful candidate will provide instruction in Doctoring Skills and Clinical Sciences and specifically in Neural and Behavioral Sciences.

    The candidate will have administrative responsibilities commensurate with rank.

    • Assist WCUCOM and WCU in the implementation of their respective Mission Statements, Statement(s) of Purpose, Institutional Plan(s), and Financial Plan(s)
    • Complete assigned tasks and participate in assigned work groups for preparing accreditation documents for all accrediting bodies
    • Works with Course Directors and Associate Deans to integrate and implement WCUCOM courses into a four-year, seamless curriculum using on-site, distance-learning, and other standard and emerging technologies
    • Review relevant WCUCOM curriculum in its entirety and recommend pertinent suggestions to the Course Director(s) and Associate Dean, Preclinical Sciences
    • Assists in monitoring the progress of all students to ensure successful progress toward graduation and recommends disciplinary action when necessary
    • Teaches in assigned courses
    • Serves on assigned WCUCOM committees, as assigned
    • Assists in the selection process of students to attend WCUCOM
    • Assist in student remediation as necessary, and as recommended by the Promotion and Matriculation Committee
    • Assist in the interview process for prospective incoming faculty
    • Make contributions to the advancement of knowledge and the development of osteopathic medicine through scientific research and community service
    • Other duties as assigned by the Course Director(s); Associate Dean, Preclinical Sciences; and WCUCOM Dean
    Physical Demands


    • Possess the mobility to work in a standard office setting
    • Have the vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone
    • The ability to sit for extended periods of time
    • The ability to lift and carry 25 pounds
    • The ability to travel throughout Mississippi and the Gulf South region.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications


    • A graduate of a college or school of medicine accredited by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) or the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)
    • Residency trained or equivalent
    • Certification by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) in Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine
    • Have academic experience in neurology and/or neuroanatomy
    • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Be detailed oriented and have excellent interpersonal skills
    • Have expertise with Microsoft Office Suite products and the desire and ability tolearn course management software/distance learning technologies
    • Be able to complete multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and exercise good judgment
    Preferred Qualifications


    • Experience in teaching and research in a COCA-accredited osteopathic medical school or college
    • Experience in more than one preclinical (biomedical/preclinical/basic science) discipline
    • Experience in course development and curriculum integration
