    Attorney Position at The Access Project, Inc.

    The Access Project, Inc., a startup non-profit legal services provider, is looking for an attorney to lead our post-conviction relief programs, notably the Rising Scholars program benefiting justice-impacted community college students in California.

    The Access Project, established in 2019, aims to redefine the role of pro bono work in enhancing access to justice. Through innovative technology and human-centered design, we develop efficient tools to expand legal services reach.

    As a rapidly expanding organization, we offer significant growth opportunities, including potential consideration for the Executive Director position in 2-3 years.

    About the Position

    The Managing Attorney for Clean Slate Programs will manage our evolving California clean slate services initiative. Responsibilities include overseeing the successful Rising Scholars Clean Slate program, providing post-conviction relief to thousands of community college students across the state using our proprietary RAP analysis tool and volunteer services platform.

    Collaboration with the Executive Director will be key in exploring new avenues to scale our services and represent The Access Project in broad efforts to enhance post-conviction remedies and access to justice.

    Responsibilities

    Manage Rising Scholars Clean Slate Program

    • Coordinate clean slate services for justice-impacted students at California Community Colleges.
    • Organize Know-Your-Rights and program kickoff events.
    • Lead training sessions for pro bono volunteers.
    • Review and supervise volunteer work in the portal.
    • Manage student declaration program and volunteer assignments.
    • Address student and volunteer queries.
    • Supervise student communications and declarations.
    • Conduct virtual meetings with students pre-petition filing.
    • Supervise case filing and progress reporting.
    • Manage relationships with legal stakeholders.
    • Maintain program content on the website.

    Collaborate on Additional Clean Slate Opportunities in California

    • Explore new avenues for post-conviction services.
    • Conduct presentations and training sessions.
    • Distribute analysis tools to legal organizations.
    • Expand existing programs.

    Maintain Volunteer Portal

    • Update training materials and resources.
    • Stay informed on relevant policy changes.

    Represent The Access Project in Re-entry Legal Services Groups

    • Attend group meetings and track legislation.
    • Participate in legal conferences and events.
    • Analyze and Report Results

      • Track and report client outcomes.
      • Analyze data for advocacy and process recommendations.
