    JOB SUMMARY

    This position is a hybrid of a registered nurse and a surgical technologist. The Orthopedic RN/Surgical Assistant works under the supervision of an orthopedic surgeon to administer pre- and post-operative care to patients undergoing procedures to treat musculoskeletal injuries and disorders. This role functions under the direct supervision of the primary operative surgeon to safely and effectively conduct invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly and is appropriately placed, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Other duties include:

    • Rooming patients in an Ambulatory setting
    • Completing intake process & educating the patient
    • Ordering, collecting and follow-up on all lab tests in clinic
    • Training all incoming surgical ortho staff
    • Applying and removing splints and casts
    • Coordination of private duty services, patient home health needs, and referrals from Immediate Care centers
    • Assisting provider in PRP procedure and screening appropriate candidates
    • Maintaining surgical site asepsis, handling implants & equipment per manufacturers guidelines, and preparing the surgical site
    • Developing and managing Ortho Fracture Line to improve quality and patient experience

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Minimum of BSN degree and licensed as a Registered Nurse in Florida
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
    • Minimum of 1 year hospital-based medical experience, preferably with orthopedic implants.
    • Extensive knowledge of current and new surgical instruments and equipment
    • Flexible and able to work in a fast-paced, high volume environment
    • Strong communication, problem-solving and critical thinking skills
