    Job Title: Data Engineer (AIS - Automatic Identification System)

    Location: Houston, TX preferred - Hybrid

    Position Type: Full-time

    Job Summary:

    We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer with a specialization in Automatic Identification System (AIS) data to join our maritime operations team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering principles and experience in processing and analyzing AIS data to support maritime navigation, safety, and logistical operations. This role involves developing and maintaining data pipelines, ensuring data integrity, and providing insights to improve maritime operations.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Data Pipeline Development: Design, construct, install, test, and maintain highly scalable data management systems. Ensure systems meet business requirements and industry practices.
    • AIS Data Processing: Process, cleanse, and verify the integrity of AIS data used for analysis. Develop algorithms to filter, aggregate, and cross-reference large datasets.
    • Data Analysis: Work closely with data scientists and analysts to provide actionable insights from AIS data. Support predictive modeling and analytical reporting on maritime traffic, port activities, and vessel behaviors.
    • Database Management: Build high-performance algorithms, prototypes, predictive models, and proof of concepts. Manage and optimize data retrieval, storage, and distribution in relational and non-relational databases.
    • Collaboration: Collaborate with maritime experts, software developers, and project managers to implement innovative data solutions. Communicate technical findings and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Compliance and Security: Ensure compliance with data governance and security policies. Protect data integrity and privacy in accordance with legal and company standards.

    Qualifications:

    • Education: Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
    • Experience: 3+ years of experience in a geospatial data engineering role, with preference for specific experience in processing and analyzing AIS data.
    • Technical Skills: Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and experience with big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc.). Proficiency in data pipeline and workflow management tools.
    • Database Knowledge: Experience with database design and management in both SQL and NoSQL databases.
    • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze large datasets and provide insights. Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is preferred.
    • Knowledge of Maritime Operations: Understanding of maritime operations and familiarity with AIS data and its applications in maritime safety, navigation, and logistics.
    • Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking. Ability to troubleshoot data-related issues and ensure data quality.
