    Vice President of Finance, Operations, and Special Projects

    Overview

    The Vice President of Finance, Operations and Special Projects is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the operational and financial efficiency of the organization while spearheading special projects aimed at achieving strategic objectives. This position requires exceptional leadership, personnel management and project management skills to drive initiatives forward and ensure alignment with the organization's goals.

    Responsibilities

    • Project management:
    • Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with the organization's goals and objectives
    • Collaborate with NCC CEO to establish priorities and allocate resources effectively
    • Lead time-sensitive efforts to remedy key issues on behalf of charter schools and/or other key partners
    • Lead special projects (e.g., charter renewal efforts, issue-specific working groups, and NCC sponsored events) from initiation to completion, ensuring deliverables are met on time and within budget
    • Develop project plans, set timelines, and allocate resources accordingly
    • Coordinate cross-functional teams and facilitate communication to ensure project success
    • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including charter school staff, community partners, and consultants
    • Operational Management:
    • Lead day-to-day NCC operations to ensure efficiency, quality, and compliance with regulations governing 501(c)(3) charitable organizations and alignment to best practices
    • Oversee accounts payable, payroll, monthly financial reports, and reconciliation of accounts vendor relationships, and cash flow in collaboration with the NCCs accountant and CEO
    • Oversee human resource functions, including onboarding new employees, handling employee benefits, and maintaining personnel records
    • Oversee the annual audit and tax filing preparation and annual financial statements completion
    • Track grant metrics and manage grant development and reporting
    • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and grant metrics to track progress to goals and make data-driven decisions
    • Identify areas for improvement, implement process enhancements to streamline operations, and troubleshoot issues as they arise
    • Leadership and Team Development:
    • Manage staff as needed
    • Mentor and develop additional team members to enhance their skills and capabilities
    • Reporting and Analysis:
    • Collaborate with NCC CEO to prepare regular reports, presentations, and updates for the NCC Board and funders
    • Provide support to the CEO, such as developing contracts for external partners or assisting with the compilation of materials for key meetings

    Qualifications

    • 5-10 years of experience in operations management and project management, preferably in a similar role
    • Experience working for an education non-profit and familiarity with Nashville's education landscape and with charter schools is preferred, but not required
    • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams and direct reports
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders and adapt messages for a variety of audiences
    • Analytical mindset with the ability to make data-driven decisions
    • Proven track record of successfully managing multiple complex projects at the same time, from inception to completion
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities
    • Collegiality, a strong work ethic, sound judgment, and a commitment to professionalism, ethics, and civility

    The NCC team works in a hybrid setting, with an option to work from home or use our Nashville office as desired, in addition to regular in-person meetings in the office, at schools, or in other settings. We are flexible on set business hours in order to meet the needs of our team members, but the role does require a daily (Monday to Friday) presence at predictable times. There will be some evening, weekend, and holiday obligations for this role.

    Compensation and Benefits

    The NCC offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience. The salary range for this role is $120,000 $140,000 and includes health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), unlimited paid time off, paid family medical leave, short-term disability, long-term disability and a 403(b) plan. Life insurance, a mental health and wellness benefit, a cell phone stipend, and a parking benefit are also provided and taxable to the employee. An annual bonus may be paid at the discretion of NCCs Board of Directors.
