    The top salary range for this position currently reaches $60,388.24; the position will receive a 4.0% salary increase in July 2024 and 2025, a 3.0% salary increase in July 2026; bringing the top step salary to $67,

    Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of public assistance, cashiering and accounting clerical activities, receiving and documenting payments, and a variety of general clerical activities.

    Essential Job Functions

    Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the lower class of Cashier I or when filled from the outside, require prior journey level work experience. Appointment to the higher level requires that the employee be performing substantially the full range of public assistance, cashiering, and account clerical duties, and meet the qualifications standards from the class. Work in this class is distinguished from the Cashier I level by the greater complexity of assignments, by the skill level required of the work, and by the greater independence with which an incumbent is expected to perform.

    In addition to qualifications of Cashier I: Knowledge of operating methods, policies, and procedures of assigned department. Methods and equipment used in processing cash and other related duties as assigned.

    Qualification Guidelines

    Experience and Education: One year of experience performing duties equivalent to those of Cashier I in the City Of Alhambra. Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and one year experience performing cashier-related responsibilities.

    Ability to: Respond to public inquiries, complaints, and requests for service in a tactful and effective manner. Accurately count, record, and balance cash transactions and other monies received. Learn and interpret City regulations, policies, and procedures. Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

    Selection Process:Applicants must complete an application online prior to the final filing date. Applications will be screened for qualifications, appropriate background, and only the most qualified will be invited to participate in the examination process. Applicants will be notified by email as to the test date, time and location. The examination process will include:

    Oral interview weighted at 100%

    Candidates will be required to pass a City administered pre-employment physical and may be required to pass a thorough background investigation and polygraph examination as a part of the selection process. Candidates who do not pass will be disqualified and removed from the eligibility list.

    Effective January 1, 2013, new members to CalPERS or an agency with CalPERS' reciprocity will be subject to the provisions of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) and will receive 2% @ 62 benefit formula underwhich the employee pays 7.75% as a contribution to the PEPRA plan. Employees who are current members of CalPERS or an agency with CalPERS' reciprocity, or who have less than a six-month break in service between employment in a CalPERS (or reciprocal) agency will be enrolled in the 2.7% @ 55 benefit formula underwhich the employee pays 8% of the employee contribution to PERS. The City offers a Section 125 cafeteria benefit plan. The City does not participate in the Social Security System. City paid leave time (sick, vacation and holiday) available in accordance with City policies.
