    About the role:

    Bartenders assist with the set-up, tear down, maintenance and operation of the bar. Prepares and serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks in accordance with standard recipes and state law. Operate a cash register in the case of a cash bar. Will prepare garnishes for drink, pull bars and set-up kegs as needed for events. Works directly with the public as a positive representative of Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. This position reports directly to the Event Operations Manager.

    Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
    • Obtain all necessary information prior to the event including event information sheet and liquor inventory sheet.
    • Obtain and maintain all necessary equipment and supplies for event.
    • Assure bar arrangements are set up properly and ready to serve (which may vary from 15-30 minutes prior to event start time).
    • Ensure atmosphere and facility are clean and professionally presented.
    • Follow Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium policies and standards.
    • Properly follow food handling and beverage procedures according to Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium policies and procedures and state laws.
    • Serve as a positive representative of Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium (professional and friendly attitude to guests).
    • Ensure proper set-up, tear down, and storage of equipment/supplies.
    • Utilize and complete all appropriate paperwork.
    • Operate cash register, collect payment, and make change.
    • Make sure drink tickets are accounted for and turned in at the end of the event to the Event Coordinator.
    • Fill in where necessary to fulfill any duties that are required to make the event successful.
    • Communicate problems and ideas with management.
    Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Minimum age of 19 years old.
    • High School graduates with bartending experience preferred. Food service or hotel/restaurant experience is helpful.
    • Good interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to organize, prioritize, and memorize.
    • General knowledge of food and beverage service procedures.
    • Knowledge of bar/restaurant supplies, equipment, and inventory control.
    • Experience in various phases of event operations with knowledge of event set-up for groups ranging in size from 1 to 2,000 people.
    • Basic math skills and experience in operating and reading computerized cash registers and tape readouts.
    • Knowledge of zoo administrative practices with a willingness to learn other areas.
    Candidates might be (depending on position) required to pass a pre-employment background check, drug test, negative skin tuberculosis test, and possess a valid drivers license with a good history.

    Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
    • Will sometimes work extended/odd hours including weekends, holidays, and night programs.
    • Must be able to walk long distances across the multiple venues and work areas. Will assist in moving products between multiple areas within the Zoo.
    • This position works primarily in an indoor event room environment; however, a significant portion of the duty is performed outdoors in an exotic animal/zoo environment and is subject to all types of weather conditions.
    • Must be able to sit, kneel, bend, twist, reach above head, and climb. Stand for long periods of time.
    • Will lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds using safe and proper lifting methods.
