    Southfield School in Shreveport, Louisiana, seeks an experienced professional to serve as a middle school math teacher. Qualified candidates for this position should have at least a bachelor's degree in education or Math (or a closely related field) with current middle school 4-8 or secondary mathematics 6-12 certification and have had at least three years of teaching experience.

    The mathematics department at Southfield believes in building a grounded, comprehensive mathematical framework that trains students to think logically and critically. Southfield's mathematics program emphasizes problem-solving and develops critical thinking through practice of basic skills and understanding and communicating mathematical thinking and strategies. In this position, you will instruct gifted math students through the Accelerated Curricular Experience (ACE) and students in 6th-8th grade. As a teacher you will ensure students are learning and absorbing the critical information they need to succeed in both high school and college mathematics.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Develop flexible, effective teaching tools and methods to help students learn mathematics.
    • Incorporate best practices and pedagogy effectively into lessons that will empower students to recognize strategies to improve learning outcomes.
    • Instill mathematical confidence in students so they can determine what steps are needed to solve complex, multi-step, nonroutine problems.
    • Support the school's mission and culture in encouraging each child's lifelong love of learning.
    • Create a classroom culture that fosters a secure, student-centered environment, promotes a challenging rigor, and develops each student's self-confidence and integrity.
    • Use a variety of formative and summative assessments, provide timely feedback to monitor student growth, and provide students opportunities to self-assess.
    • Have a willingness to share your knowledge, expertise, and experiences with others, helping both colleagues and students reach their goals while honoring differences of perspectives, values, and opinions.
    • Actively create networks with colleagues, other schools, and professional organizations to grow your knowledge continuously and demonstrate your commitment to lifelong learning.
    • Respond to families in a timely manner and share important details and information throughout the year.
    • Be committed to self-reflection to evaluate your instruction, assessment, and professional responsibilities, and explore new ideas, research, and pedagogical practices that enhance the student experience.
    • Adhere to the expectations of the school with regard to punctuality, timeliness, dress code, and confidentiality while also embracing and contributing to the life of the school beyond your instructional role.
      • Bachelor's Degree in math or Education
      • Certification in Mathematics or Middle School Mathematics Candidates with Middle School Mathematics certification must take a Geometry and Algebra Praxis exam.
