    Position Summary: 988 Peer Support Follow-Up Counselors are responsible for providing follow-up services to individuals who made contact with the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (with their consent). 988 Peer Support Follow-Up Counselors will be responsible for reaching out to individuals to check on their current wellness and safety level, assess for suicide risk as needed, provide peer support, and provide information, resources and connections to services as needed.

    Job Type: Part-time and full-time opportunities are available (20 hours/week to 40 hours/week), with regularly scheduled hours. Scheduled shifts range from 4 to 8 hours each, and are scheduled seven days a week, 9AM to 9PM.

    Job Location: Mental Health Minnesota office, Saint Paul, MN (these are not remote positions)

    Staff Direct Reports: None

    Primary Duties:

    • Contact individuals who have consented to follow-up services through 988
    • Check on current well-being and assess individuals for current suicide risk
    • Provide peer support through the connection of lived mental health experience
    • Determine whether any resources provided by the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline have been utilized since the initial interaction
    • Evaluate whether the individual could benefit from provision of additional resources or support
    • Connect individuals to resources as needed, including through direct warm hand-offs to services as needed
    • Assist with development of safety plans for individuals
    • In consultation with a supervisor, provide crisis intervention response as needed
    • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of interactions (documentation must be completed in real time)
    • Fulfill continuing education requirements as requested or required for the organization and the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
    • Attend routinely scheduled meetings for 988 Lifeline staff
    Education and Experience: The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline responds to individuals experiencing a crisis and/or suicidal ideation, so the ideal candidates will have employment or volunteer experience in crisis services, suicide prevention or mental health services. For this position, Mental Health Minnesota is seeking individuals with lived mental health experience, with training as a Certified Peer Specialist preferred but not required. Candidates must be comfortable with the use of technology, including email, data entry and cloud-based services. 40 hours of training is provided and is paid time for new 988 Lifeline staff and must be completed within the first 30 days of employment.

    Salary and Benefits: The starting wage for these positions is $20/hour. Successful candidates will also receive a $250 new hire bonus if training is completed within 15 days of start date. A $250 retention bonus is also available for employees who work at least 240 hours in the first 90 days (including training hours).
