    Job Summary

    The Patient Care and Research Assistant will assist the provider in delivering health and patient care management, including maintaining clinical records and documentation and will participate in the design and implementation of clinical research studies.

    This is an hourly, full-time position Monday through Friday. Travel between clinics in Frisco, Vail, and Edwards will be required and compensated.     The Details of the Job

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Assists in maintaining an efficient clinic schedule including scheduling standard and/or post-surgical appointments, patient flow and preparation, and chart preparation.
    • Assists provider during examination of patients. Includes: preparation of patient rooms, facilitates prescriptions for medication and physical therapy, and paperwork for referrals and work restrictions; ordering orthopaedic devices and durable medical equipment; CPT (procedural) and ICD-10 coding.
    • Assists medical staff with ordering, scheduling and coordination for any patient follow-up including MRIs, CTs, x-rays and lab tests.
    • Ensures complete and timely documentation of patient interactions such as surgery/procedure scheduling sheets, physical examinations, ordered medications and injections, patient visit charges, and DMEs, lab, x-ray, and ancillary testing results.
    • Interacts professionally with patients and their family members. May include acting as a liaison with family members before, during, or after operative procedures, providing post-operative protocols, notification of test results, education for follow-up, or follow-up calls to patients following surgery, as directed by the physician.
    • Work with physicians to collect and maintain data on clinical research studies.
    • Conduct enrollment and follow-up interviews of study participants.
    • Input clinical research data into electronic data system.
    • Schedule and complete in-person study visits and perform musculoskeletal-based physical examinations and tests for clinical studies.
    • Complete literature reviews on relevant research topics.
    • Prepare articles, reports, and presentations on data.
    • Assist in evaluating research methods, procedures and techniques based on established objectives.
    • Complete research tasks on team OR days.
    • Meet the Company's expectations as described in the VSON Policies and Practices.
    • Maintain confidentiality of Personal Identifiable Information (PII) in accordance with company Policies and State and Federal laws, including OSHA and HIPAA regulations.
    • Perform job in accordance with all company safety practices.

    Requirements:

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Solid knowledge of accepted medical industry standards and procedures, including use of medical equipment and instruments, medical reporting and documentation and safety precautions.
    • Skill in developing and maintaining relationships, and communicating calmly and clearly with patients, medical staff and the public, including during emergency situations.
    • Ability to assess patients in person and over the telephone and to act upon findings.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out more complex instructions, and to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
    • Knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation to write in order to interpret and document records and reports including preparing and maintaining records, assisting with development of protocols and sorting and filing materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems.
    • Knowledge of basic arithmetic to make simple calculations.
    • Ability to have self-direction and efficient time management.
    • Ability to work under pressure, with interruptions and deadlines.

    Education, Experience and Certificates

    • Bachelor's degree required.
    • Minimum of 1 year of medical experience required. Familiarity with complex medical institutions preferred.
    • Experience with OBERD or other electronic data collection system preferred.
    • A strong quantitative background and excellent communication skills (both written and oral) are required.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the ability to learn new computer programs required.
    • Strong time management and organizational skills.
    • Ability to use tact, discretion, and sound judgment when dealing with confidential information.
    • EMT or MA preferred.
