    MRI Technologist

    Location:
    Geneva and Elgin (must be willing to travel to multiple site locations: Geneva and Elgin - based on need)


    Status:

    PRN

    Days, evenings and weekends Hours

    Salary Range (based on experience): $35-37/hr

    Summary

    Performs all MRI examinations independently following established protocols and procedures. Provide quality patient care while ensuring all MRI safety standards are observed.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    The essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


    • Able to understand and appropriately select and/or modify MR technical factors to produce optimum MRI images with good SNR, CNR, and spatial resolution.
    • Able to identify anatomy and pathology in various cross-sections for the purpose of achieving the best image plane for interpretation.
    • Possesses knowledge and ability to follow Radiologists protocols for MR exams.
    • Is responsible for safely screening (Level 2) all individuals who enter the MR environment and understands what medical devices are safely granted entry.
    • Understands and displays knowledge of coil and cable safety as it relates to patient and coil positioning within the MR bore.
    • Maintains proper SAR levels as recommended by the FDA and is able to reduce levels as needed for patients at an increased risk for tissue heating.
    • Provides quality patient care by explaining procedures to the patients to reduce anxiety and maintain patient cooperation and involvement.
    • Adheres to code of ethics including Patient Bill of Rights and Responsibilities.
    • Ensures the proper preparation, safety, documentation, disposal, and appropriate administration of contrast enhancement media or other medications while following the Radiologists protocol.
    • Has knowledge and understands the safety precautions associated with Iodine and Gadolinium containing medications.
    • Possesses knowledge of the electronic medical records system-ERS (Intergy).
    • Is proficient at scheduling exams, sending clinical tasks, checking benefit information, printing schedules, viewing patients medical information, and creating and viewing office notes.
    • Is able to perform the MR Secretaries job duties in their absence.
    • Demonstrates safe work practices as mandated by OSHA, ACR, and AAAHC.
    • Minimizes exposure to ionizing radiation to patients, Radiologists, and self by using safe Radiation practices (distance and shielding).
    • Displays knowledge of and adheres to infection control policies and procedures including preparation of sterile tray, maintaining a sterile field, cleaning of equipment, and administration of IV contrast.
    • Maintains accurate and complete patient records and reports, including patient history sheets, screening forms, and images.
    • Ensures all equipment is in working order and maintains the integrity and safe use of the MRI and x-ray equipment. Reports equipment failures to appropriate Manager.
    • Appropriately completes the billing encounter forms to reflect the performed MRI exam(s).
    • Maintains and stocks all necessary supplies and ensures proper disposal of expired stock.
    • Able to register and collect co-pays or deductibles at time of service.
    • Is able to perform all required Quality Assurance Testing in accordance with ACR requirements.
    • Maintains awareness of technological changes and advances in MRI.
    • Assists the Radiology Department or practice clinic as needed.
    Qualifications

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    Education and/or Experience


    Required:
    Education


    • ARRT-MR Certification or ARMRIT Certification
    • Requires a sound understand of MR Physic and the manufacturers technical factors. Attending a MR physics course is strongly recommended
    • Requires a sound understanding of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology. Attending a cross-sectional anatomy course is strongly recommended.
    • CPR
    • IV Start Training
    Experience


    • 1 year experience working as a MRI Technologist
    • Experience with administering IV injections preferred
    • Experience with Philips and Siemens equipment preferred
    Specific Skills


    • Able to make appropriate and independent decisions.
    • Have the ability to prioritize tasks.
    • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
    • Possesses excellent communication skills.
    • Possesses basic computer skills and knowledge of medical manager software for the purpose of scheduling patients, communication, and perform needed office duties
    • Possesses knowledge and ability to operate Office Pacs and View Forum as needed.
    • Possesses knowledge of the Philips archival system for the purpose of maintaining patient records and print required images.
