Description

This position provides support to the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) located at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

UPF will be a significant project taking several years and requiring a substantial investment. It is a unique complex dedicated to enriched uranium operations in support of Y-12 missions.

Currently, the Department of Energy is heavily investing in UPF, marking one of its most substantial commitments in Tennessee since the Manhattan Project. UPF is also one of the National Nuclear Security Administration's major construction ventures.

Upon completion, UPF will:

- Replace an outdated facility with modern structures
- Decrease operational expenses and energy usage
- Enhance worker safety
- Ensure enriched uranium capabilities for years to come

The UPF Construction project operates on diverse schedules with varying start times, sometimes requiring employees to work overtime, weekends, or nightshifts based on business needs.

Applicants must be US citizens and provide proof of citizenship to access the site. They must also undergo a security questionnaire and clear site access requirements, including random drug and alcohol testing as part of the job.

Job Summary:
This role supports experienced construction engineering personnel by handling routine construction engineering tasks. It involves working within a construction organization in an administrative or technical role, completing assigned duties under supervision and technical guidance.

Key Responsibilities:
- Prepares field change documents and information requests
- Estimates costs and reviews project design and engineering materials for accuracy
- Initiates field purchase requisitions and conducts quantity takeoffs
- Validates material installation through inspection and documentation
- Ensures materials meet quality standards based on codes and specifications
- Collaborates with construction engineers, superintendents, and craft professionals

Utilizes relevant automation software and processes
- Leads construction estimates, cost studies, schedules, and budget preparations

- Coordinates between construction automation and project controls programs on-site
- Analyzes activities to determine scope and assists with resource requirements

Education and Experience Requirements:

Level 1:

Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent with 5-8 years of experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
Level 2:

Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent with 8-10 years of experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

Applicants must be US Citizens and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, including verification of employment, education, and travel.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of their specialization, capable of resolving various issues creatively. They should have knowledge of design codes and standards like NFPA and NQA-1, preferably with experience in DOE, DOD, and/or commercial nuclear construction projects.
- Familiarity with Bechtel's "Zero Incidents" ES&H Program
- Recent experience as an Electrical Field Engineer
