Ralph H. Simpson Co. is a structural steel and architectural metal fabrication company serving commercial and industrial projects across Chicagoland.
Our drivers play a critical role in our operation. You'll work in a fast-paced environment that supports shop production and field installation teams, keeping material moving safely, efficiently, and on time.
What You'll Do
· Deliver fabricated structural steel, railings, and hardware using a 24' flatbed truck
· Complete local hauls (typically 1–2 hours round-trip)
· Secure loads using chains, straps, edge protection, and proper blocking
· Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections
· Communicate delivery timing, delays, and loading requirements with shop and field teams
· Load trucks using cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment
· Assist field crews with unloading when needed
· Support the shop with light labor tasks during slower delivery periods
What We're Looking For
· Active CDL (Class A or B)
· Minimum 3 years of relevant driving experience
· Residence within 20 miles of Elmhurst, IL
· Ability to pass DOT pre-employment screening, including drug and alcohol testing under 49 CFR Parts 40 & 382
· Experience hauling steel preferred
· Experience hauling long material (up to 30-foot lengths)
· Ability to operate forklifts, cranes, and other material-handling equipment
· Strong communication and coordination skills
· Ability to lift, move, and position materials up to 50 lbs. from floor height to 4 feet
· Flexibility for occasional early starts, evening deliveries (7–8 PM), and Saturday runs
· Willingness to adjust start times based on field schedules
Pay & Schedule
· Union enrollment
· Full-time, Monday–Friday
· Standard start time: 6:00 AM (occasional early starts around 5:00 AM based on customer schedules)
· Overtime opportunities based on workload
· Occasional Saturday and evening deliveries
· Hourly rate based on experience
Pre-Employment Evaluation
· DOT-compliant drug and alcohol screening
· Review of driving record (MVR)
· Skills assessment covering flatbed operation, load securement, and material-handling awareness
· Walkthrough of delivery process and equipment expectations
