    Summary

    This extraordinary recruit will provide leadership, direction, and development to all clinical activities first and foremost, followed by research and academic activities, within the Division of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery. In addition, the Chief will motivate and develop providers and staff by accurately assessing and addressing their develop-mental needs. The Chief will also be expected to maintain a robust clinical practice; to continue to treat patients as appropriate; to be responsible for the clinical education and training of students, residents, and fellows; to oversee their interaction with and treatment of patients; and to sustain and advance opportunities in research.

    • Suitable operational and financial management experience or knowledge gained through leadership in a pediatric hospital, academic healthcare center, or academic group practice environment. This person will have ideally served as a program or service line leader. Additional training in management or administration is preferred. Experience in medical staff functions is essential as is working knowledge of hospital operations, quality improvement, and strategic planning.
    • Experience in facilitating and coordinating physician alignment activities, including building relationships with both community and academic physicians.
    • Outstanding clinical experience with understanding of the clinical enterprise and the patient care delivery process, and the knowledge to manage and build clinical practices.
    • Knowledge of and experience in developing quality infrastructure, including development and implementation of decision tools, clinical protocols and guidelines, care management programs, and outcome measurement assessments.
    • Understanding of research; ability to support, attract and retain exceptional clinical and basic scientists.
    Job Duties
    • Provides strategic direction and leadership for the Division of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery at Texas Children's Hospital in its clinical, education, research, and administrative missions.
    • Translates a vision for the division into exemplary clinical, educational and research programs with the goal of achieving a top-tiered, nationally ranked division, with a focus on growing the clinical program.
    • Serves as or designates a physician champion and leader for the provision of quality healthcare and clinical performance excellence.
    • Provides leadership and oversight of medical staff clinical care, research, and education, as well as performance improvement initiatives.
    • Facilitates and ensures that the division achieves high performance levels in financial performance, clinical service, and support of education, research, and collaboration with colleagues.
    • Assists the Surgeon-in-Chief in the successful management of the relationships with hospital partners and other clinical partnerships in reference to pediatric plastic surgery.
    • Assists with continued improvement in the residency and fellowship training programs and becomes personally involved and engaged with residents and fellows.
    • Appropriately administers equipment procurement in support of the division.
    • Working knowledge of information technology and medical informatics with a track record of introducing information technology into clinical practice.
    • Record of success in mentoring and developing faculty and supporting them in their academic, teaching, and clinical endeavors.
    Minimum Qualifications
    • Must have or be able to obtain an unrestricted Texas medical license.
    • Successful completion of an ACGME Orthopedic Surgery Residency and Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery Fellowship.
    • Must be qualified for faculty appointment in the Department of Surgery at the rank of Professor; exceptions will be considered.
