- May supervise staff
- Refers patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary
- Advises patients on health care including health promotion, disease, illness and accident prevention
- Coordinates work with nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, psychologists and other health care providers
- Directs and coordinates activities of nurses, students, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical staff
- Examines patients and take their histories, order laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures and consult with other medical practitioners to evaluate patients' physical and mental health
- Prescribes or administers treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury
- Provides emergency medical care

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD), is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Board Eligible Physician, at Georgia Regional Hospital - Atlanta.Located on 174 Acres in DeKalb County, Georgia Regional Hospital in Atlanta operates 300 licensed, accredited inpatient beds in three major program areas: Adult Mental Health, Forensic Services, and Developmental/Intellectual Disabilities. In addition, GRH/Atlanta also offers inpatient and outpatient Dental Services.
Job Summary:
Under general supervision, provides comprehensive medical services by examining patients, diagnosing conditions and providing treatments. Directs nurses, aides and others in the care and treatment of patients.

Qualifications
Medical degree recognized by the Georgia Composite Medical Board (GCMB) AND licensure or license-eligible to practice medicine at a state institution or in the state of Georgia as provided by state law. Physician must be Board Eligible.
