    Distributed Sun (DSUN) is a clean energy infrastructure provider founded in 2009 that develops, finances, owns, and operates solar and battery storage projects across the community solar, commercial, and industrial (C&I), and utility-scale markets. It is among the largest community solar developers in the country and has developed and delivered systems in 17 states.

    Position Overview

    We are seeking a highly skilled Associate General Counsel with extensive experience in the renewable energy sector, particularly in Solar, BESS, and EV Infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in policy and infrastructure regulations, as well as expertise in drafting and negotiating legal documents and contracts related to renewable energy initiatives.

    Responsibilities

    • Legal Compliance : Stay abreast of relevant laws, including energy policy, tax incentives, and infrastructure regulations impacting the renewable energy industry, including those related to Solar, BESS, Energy Storage and EV Infrastructure projects. Ensure company compliance with all applicable legal requirements at the federal, state, and local levels.
    • Permitting & Regulatory Compliance : Oversee permitting processes and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements at the federal, state, and local levels for Distributed Sun/truCurrent renewable energy projects. Coordinate with regulatory agencies, consultants, and legal counsel as needed.
    • Risk Management : Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks associated with solar project development, including contractual, environmental, and regulatory risks. Develop strategies to minimize exposure and safeguard DSun/truCurrent interests.
    • Stakeholder Engagement : Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to address legal and regulatory issues, resolve disputes, and support the successful execution of solar, BESS, EV Infrastructure, and Energy Storage projects.
    • Contract Drafting & Negotiation : Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of legal documents and contracts, including project development agreements, power purchase agreements (PPAs), construction contracts, supply agreements, and other commercial agreements related to renewable energy projects.
    • Project Support : Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the development, financing, and implementation of Solar, BESS, Energy Storage and EV Infrastructure projects. Provide legal counsel and transactional support throughout the project lifecycle, from initial development to commercial operation.
    • Dispute Resolution : Manage legal disputes and claims related to renewable energy projects, including litigation, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. Work closely with internal stakeholders and external counsel to resolve disputes in a timely and cost-effective manner.
    • Due Diligence : Conduct legal due diligence reviews for potential acquisitions, investments, and partnerships in the renewable energy sector. Assess legal risks and opportunities associated with target companies or assets and provide recommendations to senior management.
    • Training & Compliance Programs : Develop and deliver training programs on legal and compliance matters relevant to Solar, BESS, and EV Infrastructure projects. Promote awareness of legal requirements and best practices among internal teams and external partners.

    Qualifications

    • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. Admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction(s) required.
    • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience practicing law, with a focus on renewable energy projects and infrastructure development.
    • Strong knowledge of energy policy, regulatory frameworks, and infrastructure regulations affecting Solar, BESS, Energy Storage and EV projects.
    • Proven experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts and agreements in the renewable energy industry.
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts in a clear and concise manner.
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives.
    • Demonstrated commitment to professional ethics, integrity, and confidentiality in handling sensitive legal matters.
