    Job Description Summary:
    Coordinate student access to holistic services inclusive of student services and support, tutoring, counseling, disability resources, health services, financial aid, and registration. Organize co-curricular programming and professional development opportunities according to the students' needs and desires. Work closely with the Assistant Dean of Students for Campus Life and Academic Leadership to assess, communicate, and meet students' non-academic needs. Also, responsible for providing primarily virtual communication while engaging students through various online platforms to personalize their learning experience. In addition, person will be share responsibility for assessing services annually to make improvement in meeting students' needs.Duties and Responsibilities:

    Job Duties and Accountabilities: (all items listed below are considered "essential job functions" for ADA purposes).

    90% Student Services
    • Coordinate student access to all student services by cultivating relationships and developing processes when necessary in partnership with appropriate department leads.
    • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean of Students for Campus Life and Academic Leadership to plan, manage and deliver student orientation.
    • Develop and deliver co-curricular programming at the campus appropriate to the success needs of those students.
    • Work with the Assistant Dean of Students for Campus Life and Academic Leadership to assess, communicate and meet students' non-academic needs.
    • Continually research and employ best practices related to healthcare career job applications, resumes, cover letters, letters of recommendation and interviewing.
    • Maintain close, effective working relationships with the people and departments across the university including the Office of the Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Services, academic programs, and Student Accounts.
    • Work closely with student government (responsible for process of nomination/election of student representatives, facilitate meetings with student representatives, partner with SBA for events, and act as liaison between student representatives and faculty/staff/ administrators)
    • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of SMU policies, and have the ability to effectively apply them in the role of Student Services Coordinator.
    • Serve as an ombudsperson for students in crisis situations.
    • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Campus Life and Academic Leadership to deal appropriately with student professionalism issues based on SMU policies and procedures.
    • Guide students through the grievance process or any other SMU proceedings as needed.
    10% Other duties as assigned

    Skills and Abilities:
    • Excellent communication skills required, including the ability to communicate effectively with counselors, prospective students and family members, and other professional colleagues.
    • Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to organize and effectively communicate ideas.
    • Courteous and professional manner required.
    • Diplomacy in dealing with conflict.
    • Attention to details as they relate to recordkeeping and documentation of services provided.
    • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and exercise professional judgment.
    • Ability to interact with College faculty and staff, medical center staff, currently enrolled students, and other professional student services staff.
    • Ability and skill to work independently, and as part of a designated team.
    • Ability to travel to other SMU campuses as needed.
    Education and/or Experience:
    • Baccalaureate required, or appropriate level of experience, Master's in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or related preferred. Candidates must possess a baseline level of competencies for Student Affairs educators, as outlined by ACPA/NASPA:

    Pay Range:
    Non-Exempt hourly ranges $23.21 to $30.17

    Samuel Merritt University currently provides base salary ranges for all positions-on job advertisements-in the United States based on local requirements. Individual compensation will ultimately be determined based on a variety of relevant factors including but-not limited to qualifications, geographic location, and other relevant skills.
