Description

Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Packaging Engineer to join our Packaging team in developing world-class designs for use in high volume automation equipment.

You will play a key role on the team and will be the one who brings it all together to drive technical execution of packaging projects across several Vehicle and Energy Product platforms.

Job Responsibilities:
Provide design direction and development plans of protective packaging containers, dunnage and unique shipping racks – domestic and international
Drive expendable to returnable projects and participate in sustainability initiatives
Lead end-to-end engineered packaging projects for Tesla Vehicle and Energy platforms
Manage project budgets, risks, and change management
Partner with Supply Chain and Logistics to drive projects to enable the most efficient delivery of parts possible without sacrificing part quality or manufacturability
Interface with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, New Product Introduction, and Operations partners to gather and develop packaging requirements
Monitor KPI's and work with Packaging Design Engineers to develop world-class packaging standards and continue to improve upon them

Job Requirements:
Capable of managing multiple priorities at once without sacrificing quality of results
Experience with designing to standards such as ASTM, Mil-Spec, etc.
Proficient at risk management and communication
Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Packaging or equivalent work experience with evidence of exceptional ability
Strong understanding of packaging testing and validation
Strong knowledge in a large variety of materials (aluminum, steel, composites, foam, etc.)
Working knowledge of CAD, and technical drawings, including datum structure, GD&T and tolerance stack up analysis
Familiarity with manufacturing processes including machining, welding, injection molding etc.
