    What You'll Do:

    Ohio Department of Public Safety - Director's Office (Communications Special Projects)
    Report In Location: 1970 W. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43223
    Work Hours: 8:00 :30
    (CURRENTLY HYBRID ELIGIBLE) Will report into the office 3 days a week and telework 2 days a week. (Subject to change)

    THIS POSITION IS FOR OHIO DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY EMPLOYEES ONLY.

    Develop, plan & administer overall visual communications program for assigned agency & supervise assigned staff:

    -Manages Visual Communications (VC) activities (print & agency websites); Develops & produces visual communications projects, websites, & web-related assets; Consults with clients on visual communications activities;

    -Reviews incoming requests for VC projects & works with Visual Communications Director & Support Section Manager to determine project timelines, required resources, & staff; Prioritizes work assignments ensuring timely delivery & completion of projects within allotted budget;

    -Reviews proofs for quality & completeness prior to customer review; Ensures project objectives are met & State of Ohio & ODPS branding guidelines are followed;

    -Advises agency staff on visual communications products & provides technical & creative advice to VC team; Provides agency clients with recommendations & referrals for services not available in house;

    -Develops & implements policy & procedures for all print & online products; Conducts asset audits to ensure adherence to policy & security; Makes corrections as needed;

    -Oversees agency relationships with Department of Administrative Services (DAS) service providers; Acts as technical liaison to resolve most complex issues related to online service delivery; Participates in system design reviews during system design & development phase;

    Establish priorities & supervise subordinate personnel (, provide developmental opportunities & work direction, coach staff to foster development, monitor staff activities to ensure quality customer service & information technology security, evaluate performance, approve section staffing levels, recommend discipline, pre-screen applications & participate in interviews).

    -Monitors all visual communications to ensure consistency & coordinates design plans with Audio/Visual & Communications staff to maintain consistent corporate image;

    -Maintains VC equipment inventory & manages maintenance replacement/repair schedule; Works with Support Section Manager to approve VC purchasing, service, & software requests;

    -Oversees VC digital asset libraries for print & websites (, Creative Cloud, Cloudinary, GovDelivery) by conducting asset audits & making corrections as needed; Acts as a senior member of Visual Communications Units internal digital asset management team (Brandfolder); Leads efforts to organize the media libraries;

    -Monitors & researches new & emerging trends &/or technology by joining relevant communities, attending training & conferences, experimenting with tools, & evaluating impacts;

    Attends meetings with or on behalf of Visual Communications Director & acts on their behalf as needed;

    -Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications

    48 mos. trg. or 48 mos. exp. in electronic graphic; 24 mos. trg. or 24 mos. exp. in web site creation, design &/or development.

    -Or completion of associate core program in visual communication technology or multimedia production technology; 48 mos. trg. or 48 mos. exp. in web site creation, design &/or development.

    -Or completion of undergraduate core program in visual communications with emphasis on graphic design/industrial design; 48 mos. trg. or 48 mos. exp. in web site creation, design &/or development.

    -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
