Position Summary

The Courier position plays a critical role in supporting the mission of Mothers' Milk Bank of Tennessee by ensuring the safe, timely, and professional transport of donor human milk throughout the region. This position is responsible for picking up donor milk from hospital and clinic depots, delivering pasteurized donor human milk to hospitals, and supplying donor milk to outpatient "Milk to Go" sites.

The Courier operates a company cargo van equipped with a freezer unit and is responsible for maintaining strict cold chain standards, verifying temperature compliance, and ensuring all milk is transported safely and securely. Travel radius would include the entire state of Tennessee, Southern Kentucky and Northern Georgia.

Key Responsibilities

Milk Collection & Delivery

• Pick up donor human milk from hospital and clinic milk depots.
• Deliver pasteurized donor human milk to hospitals and Milk to Go sites.
• Maintain delivery schedules across a multi-state travel radius.
• Provide excellent customer service to hospital staff, clinic partners, and community sites.

Cold Chain & Quality Control

• Verify and document cold chain integrity at every pickup and delivery.
• Monitor freezer unit performance in cargo van.
• Ensure proper temperature logging and documentation.
• Immediately report any temperature deviations or transport issues.

Organization & Handling

• Keep donor milk inventory organized during transport.
• Properly load and unload milk into and out of the cargo van.
• Maintain clear labeling and separation of milk types and destinations.
• Assist with basic inventory tracking as needed.

Vehicle & Compliance

• Safely operate a company cargo van equipped with a freezer unit.
• Conduct routine vehicle checks and report maintenance needs.
• Maintain a clean and organized vehicle interior.
• Adhere to HIPAA and confidentiality requirements.
• Complete and maintain HIPAA certification (required).

Qualifications

• Clean driving record (required).
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to drive long distances regularly.

• Ability to lift and move insulated shipping containers and milk storage coolers.
• Must obtain HIPAA certification upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in medical courier services or healthcare logistics.
• Familiarity with cold chain handling procedures.
• Experience operating temperature-controlled vehicles.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 65 pounds.
• Ability to load and unload insulated containers.
• Extended periods of driving.
• Frequent entering and exiting of vehicle.

Benefits:

Health Insurance: Eligibility begins on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment. MMBTN contributes 80% of the monthly premium.

Paid Time Off: After a 90-day introductory period, all Full-Time Employees will receive 10 days of PTO. For each year of service, an additional day of PTO will be given.

Sick Pay: MMBTN's sick leave is accrued monthly until the employee's first anniversary (at 12 months of service) at the rate of 2.15 hours per pay period for full-time employees and 1 hour per pay period for part-time employees. Employees may not receive paid sick leave until they have successfully completed 90 days of employment. After the first year of employment, sick leave is accrued on the anniversary date in a lump sum of 8 days annually for full-time employees.

Holiday Pay: MMBTN observes the following paid holidays each calendar year: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, the Friday following Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve. In addition, the Executive Director reserves the right to determine two floating holidays annually.

Full-time exempt and non-exempt employees are eligible for paid holiday leave after 90 days of employment. Full time employees will receive their regular rate of pay for holidays that occur on a normally scheduled workday.
