    SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:


    As a principal in Jefferson Parish Schools, s/he is the instructional leader who manages staff, programs, and facilities in order to provide the education our students deserve to succeed in life and make our world a better place.

    The principal provides the leadership in the evaluation of the strengths and programmatic needs of the school in relation to district, local, state, and national goals.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    INSTRUCTIONAL LEADER
    Develops and articulates a shared vision for excellence
    Establishes measurable academic outcomes for all students
    Ensures implementation of robust curricula in every classroom
    Promotes improved teaching practices through the provision of job-embedded professional development
    Provides actionable feedback to teachers inclusive of follow-up and support.


    PROFESSIONAL GROWTH LEADER
    Provides instructional leadership at the school building through the development of:

    a solid core of certified teachers through recruiting and hiring the best candidates
    weekly, job-embedded professional development sessions aligned to current teacher and student needs
    informal and formal observation processes to ensure quality instruction
    a process to identify and support a teacher-leader pipeline


    CULTURE LEADER
    Creates a culture centered on academic excellence through:

    fostering relationships of mutual respect and trust with all stakeholders
    the development and management of a comprehensive program of student support services
    a well-balanced student activities program
    maintaining a positive, safe, orderly, clean, well-maintained school climate for students and adults
    maintaining positive public relations with the school and local community


    STRATEGIC MANAGER
    Facilitates a clear academic strategy for year by:

    Supervising the total operation of the school
    using multiple data sources to create a school wide plan for improvement
    identifying long and short-term goals to centered on increased teacher and student outcomes
    creating a long range plan inclusive of action steps to support goal attainment
    using available resources and current data to progress monitor goal attainment
    distributing leadership to ensure goal attainment
    providing timely feedback and support
    meeting the school's growth target as defined by the state's accountability program or showing progress in reaching the target


    ETHICAL LEADER
    Represents the school and district with integrity at all times by:

    modeling respectful, nondiscriminatory behaviors, and trustworthy interactions with adults and students
    supervising spending and maintaining accurate records for all school fiscal affairs in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Practices
    providing communication linkage among the central offices, and all school personnel, regional offices, parents, community, and citizen groups, and remains knowledgeable of their activities and concerns
    maintaining appropriate and accurate data on all students and school personnel in order to remain compliant with local, state, and federal requirements
    enforcing appropriate Federal Regulations, State Statutes, School Board Policies and administrative directives


    WORK ENVIRONMENT/HOURS WORKED:


    The certified administrator in the capacity of principal is required to work in an office type setting, climate controlled environment adhering to School Board energy policy.

    Must sometimes work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by job responsibilities and supervisor and attend meetings in various locations.


    COMMUNICATION SKILLS:


    A certified administrator serving in the capacity of principal must be able to communicate in standard English both orally and in writing.

    Communication must be commensurate with age and skill of listener. Must have ability to accurately give and receive information via electronic and tele-communication systems. Must be able to communicate successfully and pleasantly with the faculty, staff and public. Must be able to accurately compile, access and analyze data, summarize information and provide written report to supervisor. Must have ability to represent school system at various public functions.


    EQUIPMENT USED:


    Telephone, micro computer, facsimile machine, calculator, copy machine, printers, folding machines, intercom, public address system, security alarm system, and other appropriate electronic and office machines.


    PHYSICAL INVOLVEMENT:


    Sitting, standing, walking, running, observing and monitoring student behavior in all facets of the school environment is required during the work day.

    Must be able to operate office equipment. Reaching, bending, lifting 10 pounds is sometimes required as well as the physical restraint of another person or persons. Ability to provide own transportation to school(s), work locations, and meeting sites. Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations.


    MENTAL INVOLVEMENT:


    Must understand and interpret written and verbal instructions from supervisor and must be cognizant of and consistent in implementing the Jefferson Parish Public School System policies and procedures governing discipline and student services.


    HUMAN RELATIONS INVOLVEMENT:
    Must be able to work compatibly in group settings. Must serve as a resource to administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents, and community. Must be able to respond positively to supervision and to accept suggestions for improvement. Must maintain positive relations with the public.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    Master's Degree or higher with EDL 1 or Louisiana Certification in Administration/Supervision
    Five (5) years of successful teaching experience
    Teaching experience at level assigned
    Demonstrated ability to work with various groups


    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
    Doctorate Degree, evidence of preparation for school program administration, and successful school administrative experience.
