    Job Title: Specialized Itinerant Support (SIS) Assistant
    Reports to (Title): Chief Academic Officer
    Terms of Employment: Support Staff Salary Scale
    Grade: Grade: 9
    Hours per day: 7.5
    Days per year: 185
    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

    General Summary:
    Under the supervision of the Special Education Coordinator of Behavior and Lead Behavior Specialist, the Specialized Itinerant Support (SIS) Assistant is responsible for providing behavioral supports to students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)as directed by the Special Education Coordinator of Behavior.

    Essential Functions:
  • Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One
  • Effectively interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive working and learning environment.
  • Under the direction of the Lead Behavior Specialist, provides behavioral support and crisis management, when needed, which may include Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), Ukeru, trauma informed care and de-escalation strategies
  • Provides feedback to the Lead Behavior Specialist regarding programming issues or concerns regarding student progress
  • Attends all in-service trainings and conferences as requested
  • Attends Behavior Team meetings upon request
  • Develop/update/and maintain weekly schedule electronically
  • Observe students and provide teachers with feedback regarding student behaviors in various environments
  • Provide feedback and support to teachers regarding teaching social skills and troubleshooting problem behaviors
  • Maintain and submit accountability weekly electronically (i.e. maintain weekly calendar electronically)
  • Make materials and/or assist teacher(s)/aides with implementing and using materials
  • Provide written feedback from observations to Lead Behavior Specialist
  • Collect data on student behaviors daily
  • Complete support notes electronically on a daily basis
  • Email (check and reply to emails daily) to maintain communication
  • Work with the teacher to teach new skills and support research based instructional methods for behavior change
  • Demonstrate professionalism and maintain appropriate relationships with other personnel
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Work in teams to help with observations and troubleshooting problems
  • Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required
  • Effectively uses provided technology devices and software applications for the management of pertinent information and communication
  • Provides on the job training and modeling of strategies and implementation of materials for teachers and paraprofessionals working with students with maladaptive behaviors
  • Performs other related duties as required
  • Minimum Education/Work Experience:
  • Two year degree, 60 hours of credit from an accredited institution or passing scores on the ParaPro exam, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Experience with ABA and Autism preferred
  • Valid South Carolina driver's license
  • Knowledge/Skills:
    Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and operations. Extensive knowledge of business English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and mathematical computation. Knowledge of the principles of office management. Knowledge of the records and reports which must be prepared and maintained. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to anticipate work to be completed and complete work without the need for direct supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to demonstrate high level application of technology devices in the performance of daily activities. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation and utilization of equipment, materials and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, colleagues and all other stakeholders involved in the activities of the job.

    Working Conditions:
    Specialized Itinerant Support (SIS) Assistants must be able to work in any environment. They are required to work with students both within a classroom setting as well as 1:1 settings. They are required to complete paperwork in an office setting. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Children with disabilities may tantrum, refuse to comply, and/or act in aggressive ways towards adults. Specialized Itinerant Support (SIS) assistants are required to manage these behaviors (only engaging in CPI restraints as a last resort and/or if the Behavior Intervention Plan dictates). They are also required to engage in a great deal of physical play and interaction with students, often moving from a sitting to a standing position. Specialized Itinerant Support (SIS) Assistants must be able to walk and run to transport students from place to place.

    Responsibility:
    Supervisory responsibilities with students. No direct budgetary responsibilities required.

    Evaluation:
    Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the School Board's policy on evaluation of support staff personnel.
