    Position Overview:


    The RN provides comprehensive nursing care for pregnant, culturally diverse women, between the ages of 12 (or onset of Menarche) to adult years, and newborns from birth to one month of age.

    Will also have basic Med-Surgical nursing skills to provide care for Medical / Surgical patients placed on the unit according to established policy.

    Will also be required to be responsible for providing supervision and precepting of all nursing staff assigned to the OB Unit.

    Serves as role model to other staff and must have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Will function as Charge nurse when needed.

    EDUCATION

    • Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.
    • Bachelor's or equivalent education/experience
    CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE


    • RN-Registered Nurse of California
    • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support
    • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider
    • NRP-Neonatal Resuscitation Provider
    • AFM-Advanced Fetal Monitoring

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:

    • At least two years experience in the last three years in an acute care setting.

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

    • Provides functional guidance to Unit Secretaries, Vocational Nursing Students and orientees as assigned remaining aware of Scope of Practice of those whom guidance is provided.
    • May act as a preceptor for new employee.
    • Provides patient care in a manner consistent to the mission statement.
    • Able to demonstrate good organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
    • Demonstrate basic nursing skills and nursing process, effective written and verbal communication skills, and basic knowledge of unit specific criteria for patient population.
    • Self-directed in coordinating the care plan for patient care delivery.
    • Must demonstrate competency in community resources, legal policies relating to patient decision and outcomes, skill and knowledge in the use of oxygen/respiratory delivery devices and skill and knowledge of starting peripheral IV lines.
    • Demonstrated skills in delegation, leadership and team management concepts, and knowledge of the performance standards of other nursing team members.
