    About the Organization:

    Junior Achievement's aim is to inspire and equip young individuals to achieve success in the global economy. Their corporate and community volunteers offer hands-on experiences focusing on financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship for K-12 students. The programs empower students to apply their school knowledge in the real world to achieve economic success. Junior Achievement of Southwest New England serves seven Connecticut counties (excluding Fairfield County).

    This year, JA of Southwest New England plans to reach 35,000 students through virtual, hybrid, and in-person programs. The organization, headquartered in Hartford, has received recognition from JA USA for six consecutive years for its financial stability, student growth, and management efficiency.

    Position Overview:

    Reporting to the President & CEO, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) plays a key role in the senior leadership team. The COO will oversee JA's Education, Development, Marketing, Events, and Operations teams, implementing new initiatives and acting as a bridge to external partners and the Board of Directors.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Lead and manage Junior Achievement of Southwest New England's Operations.
    • Foster a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
    • Work with the CEO on budget development and financial oversight.
    • Provide leadership for strategic plan implementation.
    • Manage cross-departmental initiatives to achieve strategic goals.
    • Supervise staff performance, professional development, and assessment.
    • Oversee brand, marketing, and communication plans.
    • Ensure successful execution of JA's signature events.
    • Align budget and staff with company's strategic plan.
    • Engage with Board members and oversee board committees.
    • Lead DEI initiatives in line with the strategic plan.
    • Oversee major initiatives like BizTown/Finance Park and 3DE programs.
    • Manage external vendors and consultants.
    • Plan and execute staff meetings and retreats.
    • Represent the CEO at external events.
    • Participate in community/organization boards.
    • Perform other assigned duties by the CEO.

    The ideal candidate is resourceful, organized, and creative. They should be a self-starter, strong communicator, and team player who is passionate about excellence. The candidate must excel at problem-solving, project management, and leadership, with a focus on detail and process orientation.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred; MBA a plus.
    • 7-10+ years of operational leadership experience.
    • Strong leadership, strategic planning, and relationship management skills.
    • Proficiency in budgeting, financial management, and HR practices.
    • Energy, optimism, and commitment to mission.
    • Excellent communication skills.
