- Obtain a bachelor's degree, preferably in education or a related field.
- Complete a teacher preparation program and obtain a teaching credential from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), with a focus on special education.
- Demonstrate subject matter competence, often by passing the California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) in special education.
- Clear your credential through a period of induction or a new teacher program.
