Full job descriptionThe University of Iowa is seeking a Manager, Controls Engineering.
This position manages the Controls Engineering Team within Facilities Management (FM), providing leadership support for the individuals who perform a variety of services across GEF (General Education Fund) and Auxiliary campus customers: controls program creation, controls automation network support, test and balancing, etc.
This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment.
Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with theremote work program and related policies
and
employee travel policy when working at a remote location
.
Duties to Include:
Managing the business of the Controls Engineering Team in connection to the goals of the FM strategic initiatives.
Responsible for bringing forward suggestions for continuous improvement (ex: initiating renewal projects and supporting justification, implementing cultural change, building relationships across the organization, etc.)
Engaging in project design conversations, providing estimates, and ensuring ideal construction sequencing for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) support work from the team.
Customer-facing for a wide variety of complex customers and partners at the University of Iowa—including but not limited to: Office of Animal Research, Information Technology, Fire/Life Safety team members, collegiate researchers in critical lab spaces, Engie (utilities operator), design professionals, maintenance technicians, controls system vendors, contractors, etc.
Provides servant leadership for the Controls Engineering Team—working collaboratively on ideas and suggestions for how to improve issues across campus.
Requires flexibility to support campus during critical response scenarios such as extreme cold weather events.Location:

Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

About Facilities Management:
Facilities Management (FM) is a service unit of approximately 500 employees who work behind the scenes, 24 hours a day, serving the University of Iowa as stewards for our downtown Iowa City campus and Oakdale campus in Coralville.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Professional experience (typically 5-7 years) of related experience in the controls/automation field
Extensive knowledge of HVAC and Building Automation System (BAS) Control
Three years prior management experience including demonstrated experience with the performance management cycle and budgeting
Extensive experience in construction management:
document and contract writing, negotiation, and interpretation
Extensive experience with facilities management and building operations methodologies
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and with a team placing a strong focus on customer service and TCO (total cost of ownership) stewardship principles
Professional job-related experience fostering or promoting a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment where people of all backgrounds and perspectives feel welcomed and appreciated; or demonstrated the ability to do so.
Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.Desired Qualifications:
Degree in Engineering
Proven demonstration of customer service skills with HVAC systems and/or complex commercial facilities
Skilled in developing improvement concept and justification documents such as business plans
Building Commissioning certificate
Experience working in or with a higher education setting
Experience with process improvement and change management in the workplace
Experience with Johnson Controls and/or Schneider EcoStruxure Building Operation platforms
Experience with AiM as a CMMS
