    JOB SUMMARY:
    Provides diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound imaging and related diagnostic procedures.

    The sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of the sonographic equipment and for performing and communicating the results of diagnostic examinations to the ordering provider.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/


    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography exams.
    Positions patient to obtain desired views and assists Radiologist/Physicians with ultrasound guided procedures.
    Explains standard ultrasound procedures and address patient concerns to foster a sense of comfort and confidence.

    Uses ultrasound imaging to view the fetus in the womb to determine size, weight and/or gender, along with any potential problems with the fetus.

    Uses ultrasound imaging to examine any problems with the uterus, cervix, or vaginal canal.
    Uses ultrasound imaging to examine images of small tumors, cysts, or any other female reproductive diseases.
    Provides a preliminary summary of the technical findings to the ordering provider.
    Prepares patient for exam by completing all questionnaires and other necessary documentation.
    Educates patient and/or family on procedure to be performed.
    Reports equipment failures
    Follows infections control guidelines when cleaning equipment.
    Maintains and rotates supplies in assigned workstation and demonstrates cost efficient use of departmental resources.
    Recognizes and differentiates artifacts from normal or pathological processes.
    Demonstrates competency in all areas of Sonography positioning, physiology, procedure preps and technical factors.
    Adheres to dress code.
    Functions as a preceptor to orient new employees.
    Meets all departmental specific competencies.
    Adheres to medical center policies addressing infection control, safety, and personnel guidelines.
    Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with the medical center code of conduct and applicable corporate policies and procedures.
    Maintains patient confidentiality and treats patients and families with respect and dignity.
    Performs any other duties as assigned or requested.


    JOB REQUIREMENTS:
    Ability to operate Ultrasound equipment required.
