    JOB SUMMARY

    The Lead Academic Advisor provides leadership under the direction of the Education Director

    and Assistant Directors at the Recovery Education Institute (REI). Consults and trains

    Academic Advisors, Success Coaches, Employment Specialists, and Peer Partners. Provides

    academic advisement, prevocational/vocational counseling, assessments and guidance

    services to students enrolled in REI courses. Coordinates higher education and vocational

    referrals; Provides educational workshops and skill-development trainings for students.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

    1. Guides and trains team members on best practices for student enrollment, registration, retention, and graduation tracking.

    2. Acts as a point of escalation for complex student issues, ensuring timely resolution and

    exceptional customer service. Ensures a smooth and seamless delivery of educational and prevocational/ vocational training to students by the REI team members.

    3. Conducts outreach to community agencies, local colleges, and high schools. Leads REI's student recruitment and retention efforts.

    4. Demonstrates a strengths-based and student-focused approach in providing support and encouragement to students based on individual skills and interests.

    5. Communicates with college administrators to verify the accuracy of student payments, deferments and other registration-related activities.

    6. Monitors registration-related deadlines and requirements performed by Academic Advisors.

    7. Provides program orientation, guidance, and follow-up for new and continuing students.

    8. Collaborates with staff and students on educational and pre-vocational and vocational plans.

    9. Participates in REI's staff development, training, and professional growth activities.

    10. Provides academic advisement and pre-vocational and vocational counseling to current and potential students on career choice and pathways. Assists students in decision-making relative to appropriate testing and transfering to a higher education institution.

    11. Leads and instructs educational workshops, student success, career planning and personal growth courses, including pre-vocational/vocational skill development, wellness, and recovery.

    12. Links students with the appropriate community resources and/or services for educational, vocational, or personal concerns.

    13. Develops effective working relationships with faculty members in instructional areas and performs liaison activities with educational community partners as required.

    14. Attends staff meetings and participates in required trainings, and is actively involved in the community life of the training program.

    15. Reports to work on time and maintains reliable attendance in accordance with Agency policy.

    16. Models Pacific clinics' approach, mission and core values in all communication and correspondence.

    17. Communicates effectively with a culturally responsive and diverse consumer population and promotes favorable interaction with managers, co-workers and others.

    18. Performs other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    • BA/BS Degree from an accredited institution in Counseling Rehabilitation, Clinical Psychology,

    Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, or

    Career Development. Masters-Level in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or Health

    Sciences preferred.

    • Knowledge of and/or training in health care services or majors, including a minimum of three (3) years of experience working with students in health care services or majors. One (1) additionalyear of teaching within an academic institution such as a high school, community college or state university is preferred.

    • Counseling experience with students and adults within a high school, community college or

    state university setting. Experience working with culturally diverse student populations

    preferred.

    • General knowledge of the California secondary and higher education system.

    • Ability to understand the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic

    backgrounds of the student population.

    • Ability to work effectively with computers and other forms of advanced technology utilized in providing high quality counseling and instruction.

    • Ability to communicate professionally and clearly with students and staff, both orally and in

    writing.

    • Ability to plan, coordinate and implement counseling projects and training workshops.

    • Working knowledge of wellness, recovery, and strength-based principles.

    • Knowledge of matriculation requirements with competencies in general academic advisement,

    educational planning, career, and personal counseling.

    • Bi-lingual proficiency in English and Spanish, Asian/Pacific Islander, or American Sign

    languages preferred.

    • Must possess a valid California driver's license and maintain an insurable driving record under the Clinics' liability policy.

    May be called upon to drive on agency business. Needs acceptable MVR and appropriate insurance coverage

    Required to drive agency vehicle. Must have clean MVR, appropriate insurance coverage, and attend agency driver training.

    TRAINING

    Needs to successfully complete all required agency training indicated for this position.
