    General Purpose:

    The Lead Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies and for assisting the Recreation Specialist in recruiting, training, and supervising lifeguard staff and in managing Aquatics programming and facilities.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.

    Maintains and enforces pool safety.

    Explains and enforces basic pool rules and sets a positive example for patrons.

    Supervises cashiers, including but not limited to: management of accepting fees, accounting for fees received, and turning in daily deposits.

    May accept fees and accounts for fees received.

    Serve as a lifeguard during hours of operation.

    Must be able to handle paperwork, set up facility, and to perform CPR/First Aid.

    Provides information regarding facility use and hours of operation.

    Assists with conflict resolution and customer relations either in person or by telephone.

    Submits reports to supervisor on accidents, damage to facilities and equipment, problems among staff, and complaints from facility users.

    Complete records and reports regarding the following: attendance, water chemistry, incidents and accidents

    Assists with maintenance of the city's swimming pool(s); monitors and maintains pool filtration system; monitors pool water chemistry through testing of water samples; adjusts chemistry as needed to maintain standards.

    Assists in general maintenance and clean-up of activities/facilities.

    Maintains property of the City of Copperas Cove pool facility.

    Performs other duties as assigned.


    Desired Minimum Qualifications:

    Previous experience as a lifeguard, previous American Red Cross lifeguard and/or water park certifications preferred.

    Must have an American Red Cross Lifeguard certification (to include first aid, CPR, and AED), by the first working day.

    Possession of a valid Texas Driver's License by date of hire is desired, but not required.


    Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

    Knowledge for presenting a positive, enthusiastic image of the Department of Parks and Recreation, its pools and programs.

    Ability to watch, direct, and safeguard patrons. Have the skill to assist in all swimming programs as directed.

    Ability to rescue and perform emergency First Aid to persons in danger of drowning.

    Ability to be responsible for keeping the building and grounds in a safe, clean, and sanitary condition.

    Ability to clean the swimming pool, deck, scum gutters, dressing rooms, showers, entrance to pool, and other areas as required.

    Must be able to work between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. including weekends.


    Selection Guidelines:

    Formal applications, rating of education and experience; oral interview and reference check; job related tests may be required. Must pass physical demands for the department.


    Tools and Equipment Used:

    A wet/dry vacuum, cash register, phone, all lifeguard equipment to include flotation devices, hook and grapple, first aid kits, megaphones among others.

    While performing the duty of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.

    Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying up to 75 pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate chlorinating machines perform CPR, and first aid procedures.

    Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, and kneeling to perform the essential functions.
