    Einstein Charter Schools ("Einstein") is a nonprofit Charter Management Organization whose mission is to nurture students to be academically STRONG as well as socially and emotionally resilient. Founded in 2005, Einstein Charter Schools is a top performing, tuition free, open admissions network of 4 schools in New Orleans East, serving grades PK-12. Our schools are: Sherwood Forest, Village De L'est, Einstein Middle School, and Sarah T. Reed High School. Authorized by the Orleans Parish School Board, we service the needs of more than 1,600 students, over 30% of whom receive ELL services.

    Position Overview

    The Principal serves as the educational leader of the school. The principal is responsible for adhering to the policies, regulations and procedures to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe environment, creates an environment conducive to learning, and meets the approved curricula with the school's mission as the primary focus for the direction of the school.

    The principal is to work collaboratively in curriculum development and implementation, scheduling, extracurricular activities, remediation, study hall/tutorials, personnel management, policies and procedures, and facility operations.

    Reports to the Executive Director of Leadership and Learning

    Key Responsibilities
    1. Fosters the success of all by providing the leadership for assessing, developing, communicating, implementing and evaluating a shared vision of learning that reflects improving the school environment and student achievement.
    2. Establishes and promotes high standards and expectations for all students and employees to achieve maximum academic performance and to assume responsibility for behavior.
    3. Manages, evaluates, supervises clear and effective procedures for the operation of the school consistent with the philosophy, mission and goals including instructional programs, extracurricular activities, discipline, building maintenance, program evaluation, personnel management, budgetary, office operations, and emergency procedures.
    4. Communicates a clear vision of excellence and continuous improvement consistent with state and district standards
    5. Supervises the instructional programs of the school, evaluating lesson plans, and conducting classroom observations on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with scientifically based research practices which address child development and learning
    6. Establishes procedures for evaluation and implementation and to effectively communicate the procedure, discuss improvements, provide professional developments, support, and the completion of professional growth plans
    7. Selects, supports, evaluates, and retains high quality instructional staff
    8. Conducts staff meetings regularly to disseminate information, allow for dialogue, and to gain insight
    9. Ensures textbooks are aligned with the pacing guides, standards and tests
    10. Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with staff, students, and parents
    11. Serves as a role model for students, dressing professionally , demonstrating the importance of learning, accepting responsibility , demonstrating pride in the education profession, and to assure all staff does the same
    12. Supervises effective discipline and attendance issues in a fair and consistent manner with high standards, consistent with the philosophy and mission of the school
    13. Files required reports regarding attendance and discipline
    14. Establishes and maintains an effective inventory system for all school supplies, materials, and equipment
    15. Develops clearly understood procedures for emergencies and disasters Conducts regular drills for emergencies
    16. Designates and supervises staff members whom assume responsibility for the safety committee, text book committee, curriculum committee, program committee, student of the month committee, honor roll committee, awards program committee, hospitality committee, and school improvement committee
    17. Shares leadership and decision making
    18. Keeps abreast of research that improves student learning through professional developments and professional journals
    19. Connects families and students to the health, human and social services they may need to stay focused on learning
    20. Promotes and supports parent/student/community involvement in the school. Engages the community in shared responsibility for student and school success
    21. Addresses problems in a timely manner
    22. Promotes respect for diversity in the school and community environment
    23. Engages in dialogue with other decision makers to improve teaching and learning
    24. Establishes, communicates, and enforces procedures which align with Federal , State, and District policy to ensure integrity of confidential school records
    25. Establishes and supervises schedules and procedures for the supervision of students in non classroom areas
    26. Maintains visibility and accessibility with teachers, students, and parents Attends all required school, district, state, PTA, and Board Meetings
    27. Completes and submits in a timely fashion all reports, budgets, and requested items. Ensures grading system is effectively communicated and adhered to
    28. Ensure all staff receive a copy of the School Improvement Plan. Pupil Progression Plan, and access to all required documents to improve student learning
    29. Supervises procedures for identifying and addressing the special needs of students. Implements summer programs to address the needs of students in the community Enlist the cooperation of community leaders to assist in conducting summer programs
    30. Utilizes data to make clear, observable changes in teaching and learning
    31. Uses data as a basis for instructional decision making
    32. Provides teachers and staff with test data to determine needs of students
    33. Provides staff with professional developments that address effective intervention strategies for students in need
    34. Implements transparent secure procedures for the collection of funds, disbursement of funds, budgeting of funds, grant applications, reimbursements, and ensure fiscal responsibility
    35. Adheres to accounting procedures, policies, laws, and regulations with regard to fiscal procedures
    36. Reports to the Board of Directors all requested information, personnel issues, safety issues, potential liabilities, large purchases, and personnel changes
    37. Encourages external and internal stakeholders to become visible members of the school community
    38. Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director of Leadership and Learning
    Requirements

    Skills/Qualifications
    • Passion for improving educational opportunities for urban students and for building a strong, mission-driven organization.
    • Commitment to Einstein Schools mission, vision and growth.
    • Excellent communication, presentation and negotiating skills.
    • Excellent knowledge, background and experience in methods and techniques used in the administration and supervision of all programs in a school.
    Education & Experience
    • Bachelor's Degree, required. Master's Degree, preferred.
    • Valid LA Teaching/Leadership Certification, required
    • Demonstrated leadership ability with diverse student body and staff; effective management of instructional and non-instructional staff, ability to establish and maintain working relationships with school officials, parents, students, teachers, support staff and associates.
    • 3-5 years experience as a school leader (principal or assistant-principal preferred) with significant areas of responsibility.
    • Demonstrated record of success raising test scores in a non-selective urban school that provides an outstanding education for its students, demonstrated by third party data.
    • 3-5 years experience teaching at-risk students
    Evaluation
    • Annual school review, including analysis of student achievement data.
    • Annual school development plan consistent with the school's contract and CMO objectives.
    • Evaluated by the Executive Director of Leadership and Learning
    Compensation is commensurate with experience.
