Lincoln University Job Description Job Title: Adjunct Instructor, Biology Division: College of Undergraduate Studies Department: Department of Biology FLSA Status: Exempt Reports to: Dr. Karen Baskerville, Professor and Chair JOB SUMMARY: Conducts University courses for undergraduate students by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for teaching assigned courses in the Biology Department. Teaching duties may include Anatomy and Physiology lectures and labs, Biology Labs for Pre-Nursing Students, and Biology labs for both Biology and non-Biology majors. Prepares lab exercises for students and conducts them. Provides supply requests to lab manager at least one week prior to conducting each lab. Grades lab reports and/or lab tests and explains the grades to the students. Prepares quizzes, tests and practical exams and conducts them; Other relevant duties can be assigned. EDUCATION: M.S. in Biology or related discipline (completed by the time of hire); Ph.D. preferred. EXPERIENCE: Previous experience with teaching undergraduate labs and familiarity with non-biology major students are advantages. A commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, effective oral and written communication skills. QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to work with little or no supervision. Must be able to make decisions supporting the department's mission and goals. Must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects and prioritize based on departmental functionality. Must have excellent communication skills, oral and written. Must have interpersonal skills, and the ability to work within a culturally diverse organization. Must have a high level of professional appearance and demeanor. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. WORK CONDITIONS: Work is primarily performed in a university campus environment and requires a flexible schedule. The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions and protection from weather conditions.
