    This position is responsible for residential backflows, Ga. UPC locates, plugging and unplugging water meter, Meter maintenance, Water meter box dig outs, changing out, repairing, installing and testing water meters.
    Major Duties
    • Installs new water meters as necessary;
    • Open and closing work orders on the computer system;
    • Checks for and repairs meter leaks or worn and defective parts;
    • Disconnects / remove water meters;
    • Responds to public's questions and concerns;
    • Check for zero water consumption water meters as necessary;
    • Performs emergency Ga. UPC Locates;
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    Minimum Qualifications

    High School diploma or equivalent and State of Georgia, Backflow Certification must obtain within five (5) months. Must have four (4) to five (5) years related experience; Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated; equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Knowledge Required by the Position
    • Knowledge of water meter functions;
    • Knowledge of water safety regulations;
    • Knowledge of the City water systems;
    • Knowledge of the location of City streets and meters;
    • Knowledge of the methods, materials and techniques required for repairing mechanical devices;
    • Skill in the operation of tools and equipment used in performing maintenance tasks with water meters;
    • Skill in installing new water meters;
    • Skill in oral and written communication;
    • Skill in dealing with the general public;
    • Ability to work outside for extended periods of time in various weather conditions;
    • Backflow Prevention Certification (within 5 months)
    • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
    Supervisory Controls: The employee works independently with on-going contact with the Water and Sewer Division for further instructions and direction. Work is performed under general supervision from Meter Repairman Foreman.

    Guidelines: Guidelines include the Ga. UPC Water and Electrical Code, City codes, policies and procedures, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

    Complexity: This position consists of meter repair..

    Scope and Effect: The purpose of this position is to repair water meters and assist with the provision of services to customers. Successful performance helps ensure continued water services.

    Personal Contacts: Contacts are typically with co-workers and the general public.

    Purpose of Contacts: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information and provide services.

    Physical Demands: The work is typically performed with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee is required to frequently lift light and heavy objects, climb ladders, use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguish between shades of color.

    Work Environment: The work is performed outdoors and in an office. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, machinery with moving parts, and occasional inclement weather.
