- Aiding veterinarians in outpatient examinations by recording histories, vital signs, weights, and offering client education.
- Preparing patients for surgery and monitoring their vital signs throughout the procedure.
- Collecting blood, stool, and other samples; conducting in-house laboratory tests and preparing specimens for external laboratories.
- Taking, developing, and managing radiographs following proper safety protocols.
- Providing fundamental animal handling and restraining animals during examinations.
- Administering and monitoring medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments under veterinary discretion.
- Maintaining cleanliness and organization in exam rooms, treatment areas, and lab facilities; restocking necessary supplies. Assisting team members in keeping public areas of the practice tidy and maintaining medical equipment.
- Demonstrating warmth, courtesy, and professionalism in all client interactions; showing compassion and care in all patient dealings.
- Communicating effectively with veterinarians and practice team members, including client discussions, patient plans, and addressing client concerns, among others.
- Performing any additional assigned duties as required.
- State license as a certified/licensed/registered veterinary technician in the desired employment state.
- Capability to lift patients and handle equipment up to 25 pounds independently; ability to manage heavier patients or equipment with assistance.
- Adherence to OSHA safety practices, including proper PPE usage.
- Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS Office tools, etc.
- Fundamental math proficiency and ability to calculate medication dosages accurately.
