    American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position specializing in infectious disease and isolation care at an acute care facility in West Virginia, with a minimum of 2 years of experience required.

    Responsibilities

    • Acute care Med/Surg unit with 18 private rooms, designated for infectious disease and isolation patients
    • Patient population includes infectious disease, isolation, COVID, MRSA, C-Diff, and similar diagnoses
    • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6 (1:4 for COVID patients); unit is typically staffed with 3–4 RNs per shift
    • 2 CNAs per shift provide support on the unit
    • Charge nurse coverage 24/7; day charge may carry patients if needed, night charge always carries a full patient assignment
    • No cardiac drips; common IV medications include Heparin, antibiotics, and standard Med/Surg IV medications
    • No ventilators on unit; patients may be on CPAP, BiPAP, or high-flow oxygen managed by respiratory therapy
    • Remote telemetry monitored from the 3rd floor; RNs are not required to read or interpret strips
    • Charting via Epic (1 day of Epic orientation provided)
    • 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:30 PM
    • Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Days: Sat/Sun; Nights: Fri/Sat/Sun)
    • Travelers are scheduled based on unit needs; block scheduling is permitted when unit needs are met
    • Orientation consists of 1 day of Epic training followed by 1 day on the floor with a preceptor; independent assignment begins on day 3
    • Travelers are the first to float and may be floated to other Med/Surg units; if floated to a Tele unit, patient assignments will be within the traveler's skillset
    • Holiday coverage may be required depending on permanent staff availability
    • Scrub color is royal blue; scrub jackets are optional but must be royal blue if worn — no hoodies or non-scrub jackets permitted
    • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from this WVU facility to be eligible
    • Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before re-applying
    • Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year before a 2-year break is required
    • A 13-week contract (approximately 3 months) is standard for this position

    Requirements

    • Active WV or Compact RN license required
    • Current BLS certification (AHA) required
    • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
    • Strong Med/Surg background with knowledge of infectious disease and isolation precautions
    • Valid driver's license copy required for consideration
    • Two references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
    • Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
