    Overview

    The Conference Sales Manager will work on conference and meeting space booking opportunities, work with clients on rates and contract terms and convey this information to all departments. The candidate will be able to execute all aspects of the sale process, promote to potential clients, establish working relationships, initiate sales calls and ensure booking information is maintained and up to date.

    This role will pay a salary of $45,000 to $55,000.

    Responsibilities

    • Client account maintenance and management.
    • Assume management responsibility for all services and activities of the Conference Sales Department within the facility including sales tools and materials, proposals, sales calls and contracts.
    • Emailing and phone calling customers to collect and maintain deposits, insurance, and other administrative tasks.
    • Inputs information into and runs reports in Customer Management System (CMS).
    • Prepares all event contracts, pre-documentation and develops license agreements.
    • Research new client information.
    • Promote the convention center to all potential clients.
    • Deal effectively with potential clients. Make verbal presentations to groups of various sizes.
    • Prepare reports, correspondence, memoranda, agreements and forecast projections.
    • Provide excellent customer service assistance to internal and external clients.
    • Conduct tours of facilities for potential licensees; answer questions and provide information regarding facility capabilities, policies and procedures; and assist clients in finalizing booking arrangements.
    • Generate new business through cold calls, direct selling, attending industry and networking events, advertising and various other prospecting methods; position is to uncover new event opportunities.
    • Create creative sales blitzes 4 times per year to attract new clientele, increase events, and maintain strong relationships with existing clients.
    • Manage lead generation via multiple websites and continue to stay current on new lead generation opportunities.
    • Work in direct contact with Director of Marketing, General Manager, Visit Sioux City, Chamber of Commerce and adjoining Courtyard Inn Hotel to acquire convention sales revenues and bookings.
    • Assist in coordinating social media efforts with Marketing Department for convention center promotion.
    • Assist in coordinating efforts to give back to the community.
    • Participate in the development of sales and marketing materials.
    • Coordinates customer surveys and results.
    • Recognizes opportunities to maximize revenue opportunities by up-selling and offering enhancements to create outstanding events.
    • Participate in developing and implementing goals, objectives, policies, budgets, and priorities of Sales Department.
    • Prepare written proposals; reevaluate potential business value of various events and clients; initiate contractual arrangements.
    • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Knowledge of Momentus Software Systems a plus.
    • Self-motivated, optimistic, detail-oriented and have a strong sense of urgency as we are heavily deadline-driven.
    • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Marketing, Business Administration, public relations or a related field is preferred.
    • 1-3 years of increasingly responsible sales experience.
    • Excellent follow-up and organizational skills.
    • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a very fast-paced environment.
    • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, Windows and Outlook.
    • Ability to work event nights, weekends and holidays as required.

    While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is continuously asked to multi-task under time limits. Position requires constant attention to precise details and accuracy of specified standards including following simple to complex (more than 3 steps) instructions, and concentration which frequently extends beyond 30 minutes at a time. This position requires constant use of interpersonal skills including the ability to direct/motivate/inform staff and foster collaboration, being able to recognize and resolve conflicts, being able to openly communicate in writing and verbally with clients.

    Physical demands:

    While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee constantly operates a computer and other office devices such telephones, copy machines, fax machines, etc.; occasionally moves about inside the office to access storage areas, cabinets and office machinery; constantly moves about the arena and event sites before, during and after events to service clients and supervise staff; constantly communicates via radio/walkie, telephone, email and in-person with others to exchange accurate information. Employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. As business or emergency situations require, employee may sporadically assist in lift/move 50 lbs.

    Work environment:

    This position's duties are performed indoors and outdoors in the weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environments is usually moderate to loud during events and minimal during non-even times.
