    Description

    JOB PURPOSE:

    The Youth Care Worker (YCW) will be responsible for monitoring the activities of residents of the Pecos Children's Center and to ensure compliance with program rules and expectations. This position is also responsible for ensuring the safety of residents and the security and sanitation of the program. They will help to oversee and to take reasonable action necessary to carry out responsibilities assigned as long as such action does not deviate from established organizational policies and is consistent with program guidelines and sound professional judgment.

    Position Requirements

    ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Responsible for providing a safe, structured environment that meets the needs of the client while maintaining professional and acceptable boundaries at all times.
    • Maintain positive relationships with clients, and management staff.
    • Provides consistent coverage for assigned shifts, working within the team and independently to complete all shift tasks.
    • Performs general administrative functions such as answering the phone and responding to in-person inquiries in a professional manner.
    • Consult with direct supervisor or supervisor on-duty regarding residents' personal needs and behavior.
    • Utilize positive behavioral management techniques including verbal redirection.
    • Assist residents within limits in processing issues and problem-solving.
    • Monitor all areas of the shelter to ensure compliance with facility rules, policies, procedures, and protocols.
    • Respond to residents' requests, complaints, and inquiries.
    • Address procedural violations with residents to ensure a clear understanding of expectations and to assist resident with achieving compliance.
    • Conduct orientation/assist with intake, assign beds and lockers, issue linens/personal supplies and other items to residents entering into the shelter.
    • Brief and provide direction and needed assistance to volunteers and or any other staff.
    • Teach good personal hygiene skills.
    • Maintain appropriate boundaries with residents at all times.
    • Gain a working knowledge of policies.
    • Other duties as assigned

    ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED required. Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or related field Preferred.

    EXPERIENCE: 1+ year related experience and/or training including experience working in Crisis intervention. Preferred experience in working with immigrant populations, and child welfare.

    ATTENDANCE: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer's sole discretion.

    LICENSES: Driver's License with clear record.

    VEHICLE: Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.

    OTHER: Must be available and willing to travel to various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates. Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others.
