    Description

    The Omaha-based Pancreatic Cancer Center of Excellence, under the leadership of Dr. Sunil Hingorani MD PhD, seeks to attract a seasoned Histotechnologist to add research and management depth, complementing both its Wet Lab and Patient Clinic. Dr. Hingorani has a storied 30+ year career in PC, innovating in both scientific research and patient care. The PCCE has unparalleled access to highly relevant research platforms including patient tissue, organoids, Murine Mice, and an extensive and unique plasma bank focused exclusively on PC patients and relatives.

    You will:

    Participate in pre-clinical drug discovery and development projects with a focus on Cancer-Stromal interaction & and Immunology.

    Collaborate, under the guidance of the PI, across project teams to establish and validate in vivo strategies and study plans supporting exploration of novel cancer therapeutics and targeted therapies.

    Develop and process histopathology samples for in vivo studies to evaluate and establish pharmacological efficacy, validate combination strategies, biomarker identification and analysis.

    Document and communicate findings of experiments as well as preparation of reports and standard operating procedures.

    Maintain accurate inventories and records for specimens and workflow.

    Be responsible for written and verbal communication of results within a multidisciplinary team environment.

    Time Allocation:

    75% Histology Support for Research

    Prepares and processes tissue for microscopic evaluation utilizing standard histological techniques such as tissue embedding, cutting, staining, and immunostaining.

    Evaluate and analyze work utilizing microscopy for quality assurance. This includes troubleshooting and rectifying results accordingly. Reports more challenging results to supervisor for further evaluation and quality assurance.

    15% Laboratory Maintenance

    Properly operates facility equipment. Prepare and maintain standard solutions and reagents for tissue processing. Ensures that the lab is maintained and stocked with the supplies needed to conduct scientific research. Ensures availability of operational equipment and adequate supplies for each phase of the project(s); replaces reagents and cleans instruments as needed; and provides recommendations to supervisor of the above for ensuing projects.

    May assist or train laboratory personnel in research methods, procedures, and equipment.

    10% Material & Data Management

    Data entry for workflow management. Order reagents, maintaining awareness of critical supply levels. Assists in developmental projects as assigned. Maintains accurate storage records for processed samples.

    Qualifications:

    Must-Have

    Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, genetics, or a related discipline.

    Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.

    Proficiency with MS office

    Preferred:

    2 years' histology experience embedding and processing tissue specimens.

    Experience with in vivo models of diseases

    Familiarity with common biomedical research lab protocols and assays.

    Demonstrated ability to assist and train a small team of researchers.
