- Fitter Welder-DIRECT HIRE
- $22-$25/hour
- Night Shift
- Ability to weld together fabricated parts of structural metal products in shop, plan sequence of operation.
- Obtain specified electrode and inserts electrode into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through portable welding gun; connect cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by Welding Engineer or Welding Technician and be able to set welding machine wire feed.
- Ability to start power supply to produce electric current; strike (forms) arc which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to work piece and join edges of work piece.
- Manually guide electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
- Ability to weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions. Examine weld for bead size, overall appearance, and other specifications.
- Ability to lift and position components, manually, using overhead or jib cranes.
- Ability to set up jigs and fixtures; position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in jig or fixture.

* Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
* Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metals.
* Connect and turn regulator valves to activate and adjust gas flow and pressure so that desired flames are obtained.
* Align and clamp workpieces together, using rules, squares, or hand tools, or position items in fixtures, jigs, or vises.
* Melt and apply solder along adjoining edges of workpieces to solder joints, using soldering irons, gas torches, or electric-ultrasonic equipment.
* Position and secure workpieces, using hoists, cranes, wire, and banding machines or hand tools.
* Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
* Grind, cut, buff, or bend edges of workpieces to be joined to ensure snug fit, using power grinders and hand tools.
* Weld separately or in combination, using aluminum, stainless steel, cast iron, and other alloys.
* Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment.
* Develop templates and models for welding projects, using mathematical calculations based on blueprint information.
* Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits.
* Preheat workpieces prior to welding or bending, using torches or heating furnaces.
