    BWXT is currently seeking a TRISO Fuel Engineer for its Advanced Technologies location in Lynchburg, VA

    BWXT's Advanced Technologies (AT) group researches, designs, and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, nuclear rocket propulsion systems, and radioisotope production systems for both internal and external customers.


    BWXT Advanced Technologies is seeking a highly motivated Fuel Performance Engineer with materials expertise to advance the state-of-the-art fuel systems and materials for use in advanced reactor applications.

    The position will be located in the Lynchburg, VA Advanced Technologies office. Relocation benefits are available for this position.

    Perform material selection and optimization of fuel material architecture.
    Develop manufacturing and test requirements/specifications.
    Provide materials engineering support for procurement and manufacturing of components.
    Evaluate feedback from in-pile testing.
    Support fuel performance modeling.

    Provide a strong interface with the BWXT's TRISO manufacturing team and with national laboratory partners in the development and testing of advanced fuel materials for various applications.

    A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Nuclear, Materials, Mechanical or similar discipline) is required.
    Experience in the nuclear field with a focus on advanced fuel material development and performance is required.

    Must possess an understanding of the interplay between reactor design, fuel development, advanced fuel materials, and fuel testing / qualification programs.

    Must possess excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
    Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.


    However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.

    Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
