Job Description

• Install insulating materials to shipboard equipment and components; boilers, piping systems, heating and air conditioning systems; bulkheads and overhead of compartments
• Covers the above using insulating materials
• Installs sheet insulation on bulkheads, ventilation ducting and overhead of ship structure
• Wires pre-formed fiberglass and calcium silicate pipe covering around high temperature steam and water piping
• Trowels mastic or cement on fiberglass clothe to obtain smooth finish
• Fits thermo-block insulation to boiler drums, evaporators and steam turbines
• Wires insulation on machinery and provides wire netting for retention and covers with cement prior to coating with mastic finish
• Installs calcium silicate and pre-formed pipe insulation to piping systems
• Able to measure to size and fabricate portable pads
• Wires the properly sized pads to the various valves and fitting as necessary
• Knowledge of insulation theory, shipboard equipment, and nomenclature
• Able to read blueprints
• Able to read tape measure and know formulas for mitering

• Minimum 3 years of insulator experience
• Must have or be eligible for DBIDS badge and OSHA 10 hour maritime
• Must be able to pass background check and drug test
